Just wanted to introduce myself as to not be rude, I’m very new to this, My name is Brice “Ex-Sgt “Mauritz”
I am an ex- U.S. Army Infantry Veteran, with deployments to Bosnia-Herzegovin, Panama, and the lovely Republic of Korea,South. I was born with a love and passion for knives, swords, axes, tomahawks, spears, … basically anything edged and made of steel, ok and blunt as well, I’ve a membership with one other forum but it’s also new. So I figured I would intrude ….un introduce myself and see where it goes “ hello and how do these work from your perspectives ? A little more about myself, I was in a minor helicopter crash in 1996 at Ft.Pickett ,Virginia while i was in the 10th Mountain Division, it was minor in that our Blackhawk didn’t come apart and aside from a severely bruised abdome ( a spare barrel from an M60 machine gun was jammed into my abdomen during the crash) it was relatively minor. No big deal … Ten years later my intestines fell out, literally… this isn’t for sympathy. Millions of people have it way worse on every level. But I simply cannot stand when people say they are disabled but don’t explain and expect others to understand. I am a disabled veteran. … how are you doing ? please excuse my poor English, spelling, grammar, and sentence structure ! So how does this all work ?
I will try as hard as I can to give everyone who responded a respons ! I seem to be having a technical issue but I am trying !

Welcome to the forums! Prepare to open you mind and empty your wallet.

Though not a vet, I'm disabled myself. I've been literally through the ringer, and I'm only 42. Most people here know this. However, if you ever need someone to talk to who has been there done that, hit me up. Just got back from the ortho surgeon today, shoulder replacement surgery most likely in January. Thankfully not immediate. Tumor in the arm, torn cartilage, dead bone in the head of the shoulder, cartilage peeling away from the dead bone. Fun fun fun.

Again welcome! Just know that we are horrific enablers here.
Wow the ringer is right ! Thank you for responding I appreciate it and K.O.D. I am truly sorry about your shoulder and like you I am here if you want to talk or just need to vent about it !

Welcome Brice and thank you for your service. Tell us about what brought you here and what you currently own, other than the obligatory k-bar :D , and what you are wishing for?

My dream knife is pretty much any edged item Mr.Jason Knight makes in 80crv2

Yeah yesterday at the doc appointment the surgeon again asked me if I wanted a cortisone shot for the pain. I said no again. I told him its not pain that is the issue, its the range of motion or lack thereof. He was incredulous. He said 99.9% of his patients would be in once a month for cortisone shots or requesting some other form of pain relief. I'm well acquainted with pain, and I've had enough medication to last a lifetime or 3. The dull, achy, pain at rest is not anything more than what I deal with in the rest of my body, and as long as I don't do something stupid the ouchy why the f did I do that pain doesn't visit.

Interesting that Quiet Quiet called me "Too tough to kill." Its actually more of a too stubborn to die permanently. When I was 13 I was "medically" dead for about 30 seconds until the magic ping pong paddles brought me back. Let me tell you, that is an experience I sincerely hope noone has to go through.

As far as veteran injuries, those are no joke either. A friend of mine lost half of his left calf muscle to an IED in Afghanistan. My grandfather in WWII took several pieces of shrapnel from a mortar. 3 to the helmet, one in his right shoulder and out his left hip, January 1945 at the Siegfried line. Y'all soldiers are some tough SOB's. I thank you for your service. I'm thankful both of my cousins survived uninjured multiple tours of both Iraq and Afghanistan in the early and mid 2000's.

I wanted to join the marines when I was 17, I wasn't sure I was cut out for college. I was turned down by both the marines and the army due to my vision and medical issues. It was the right decision. Going to college was the wrong decision though.

Welcome, Sgt...

I myself am still nursing a wicked paper-cut I received in the USAF back in the late 70's (my family were all Army, and I get crap every holiday...)

Nothing wrong with USAF. I have family that served in every branch (even the Coast Guard yikes!). Paper cuts are serious though. Can get infected, gangrene, might lose a finger!

Whenever I think of fighter planes though, I think of the words of Admiral Benson. "You know, I've personally flown over 194 missions, and I was shot down every one of them. Come to think of it, I've never landed a plane in my life!" Someone name that quote please.

Why walk when you can fly?

I used to get crap about my time in uniform also. Only a matter of time before it happens again.

My attitude is that it really doesn’t make a difference what service you were in. USA, USN, USAF, USMC, or USCG. Full time, Reserve or Guard. The key thing is that you don a uniform at some point in your life.

If you have (or tried) you are ahead of 99% of the population walking the street.

With that said, it is so much fun to talk smack about all the branches of service. :)

My family has been in many levels of government as well as military. Though no one talks smack to my cousin-in-law. Graduated 1st from West Point in 1998, captain in the army airborne rangers, two masters from Harvard.

My cousin went to Annapolis, graduated but went USMC (so he could be stationed in Hawaii, surfer dude lol). We always used to make fun of him, the captain in the radio command unit that in his free time surfs and drove a 1963 VW bus. He's now an FBI agent supervisor after 10 years of being an agent.

Man we get old fast. But I'm fortunate to have these two guys in my family.

Fun fact: I can outshoot my FBI agent cousin lights out, both hands, one handed, either hand pistols. He won't even try me with rifles. He's 4 years older too. I think it's because my Steyr is superior to his Glock!
