very interesting...any history on this one?

Pretty cool, and it looks like it is well made. I really like the more traditional wooden sheath on this one.

I think that I see two fullers, or is this thing double edged?
Most ginuntings that I have seen have a straight or slightly concave edge, and this one appears to be on the other side. Anyone else notice this?

yup.

is it the lighting? it does look like the wrong edge is ground, if so hand grip is upside down as well....

note scabbards & grips on HI's & Valiant's

Amazing. The scabbard is crazy:thumbup: . What's the story on these? Nepalese? Tibetan? Mongolian? Pakistani? Afghan? Indo?
I've done never seent wunna these afore... :D

i am the one who emailed yangdu about the "ginunting" quite a while ago out of curiosity. this is very nice, but i should have mentioned the cutting edge should be on the inside. would just be a case of rounding off the present edge, putting one on the inside, changing the handle around? i wonder what yangdu will feel when she reads all this..>!

Looks as if Bura got it backwards. Wild. Probably would have given Bill a few more grey hairs.

the gununting is a traditional weapon from the phillipenes. bura seems to have taken his inspiration from whoever has made the valiant model at Linky , he just got the edge on the outside instead of the inside......

truly a unique one-off offering as i'm sure after all this he won't make the same mistake again......

Handle doesn't appear to be pinned. Might be just a case of heating the laha and reversing the handle.

Maybe not simple, but not all that challenging to some of the folks here.

If the edge is on the wrong side, reversing the handle won't help.
Keep it like it is. There's nothing wrong with a one of a kind sword.

That is neat lookin! I personally don't think the handle is on backwards. I looks like an intentional design.

Me an FMA guy, not recognising a phillipino weapon:o
That sheath should have been the giveaway...
and the pommel treatment...
Thanks Kronckew, learn'd me something new:)

I talked to Yangdu about it. It's still a hell of a sword for the price. She doesn't know if Bura reversed it through his interpretation (obstinacy) or not.

Look at the scabbard; beautiful. No cracks. LIfe is funny.

Thank you all for your comments you are correct, but Bura came up with his own design and this is a beautiful Sword.

if you look at the valiant original, the 'hook' of the pommel end is on the same side as the edge, which is on the inside of the curve. the bura version has exactly the same outline, but the edge is on the outside of the curve such that the hook is opposite to the edge and would dig into your wrist on using it in a normal chop. the 'hook' pommel is there to keep your fingers from sliding off. of course if it is used for only chopping up, it would be on the correct side. it would probably be easy for one of our experts to fix it on a belt sander by adding an edge to the inside and de-emphasizing the outside edge, or no reason it couldn't be made double edged other than the valiant model don't have one. moro kris (sundang) have this same reverse curve profile where the point is below the center line and they are double edged.... as yangdu said, no matter , it is still a beutiful and well made sword and well worth the bargain price.

I love the wood scabbard. Very unique and a one of a kind sword for sure, especially if it changes in the future. Bura is not out of the game yet by any means.
