Hi guys. Introduction and new person help.

User knives id recommend that are cheap would be the Enlan el-01, and one of the cheaper Kershaws like the Asset, Tremor, Chill, Compound, Kuro etc. All are under 25 bucks are a good way to start.

There are literally 100's of knives that meets your requirements.

2 of the greatest and most proven knives are the Benchmade Griptilian and Spyderco Endura.

The Benchmade has 154CM steel and the Endura has VG-10. They're both good steels, that are easy to sharpen with your sharpening gear and take a nice edge.

The Benchmade has a Valox handle and the Endura has a FRN handle. Both are plastics, that provide great grip yet are very easy on the pants. And finally, both the Benchmade and Griptilian comes in a variety of colors. For example, blue or orange scales, appear less intimidating than a all-black knife.

Truth be told, you cant go wrong with either.

A lot of mention of the spyderco endura, the delica is a slightly smaller version (just <3" blade but still full size handle so it fits your hand well) I would recommend it, I love both of mine but recently my mini-grip with a deep carry pocket clip has beat the delica's out of my pocket. I'm a die hard spyderco fan but I love my mini-grip and I have a full size grip on the way. Also this is my personal preference but my mini is sheeps foot and the full size is drop point, I don't like tanto's cause they give me problems when sharpening (but again that's all personal choice)

Either delica/endura or mini-grip/full size grip are great knives, you can get one of the spyderco's for around $45-55 here in the FS Section, used griptilian a are a little harder to come by (if that tells you anything) so I'd budget around $80-90 if you want to go for the benchmade.

Not as important but the grip is a lot more fun to flip. I agree with polecat, endura/delica, full size/mini grip, you can't go wrong with either.

Welcome to BF, your friend just cost you lots of money, but you'll thank him for that later lol.

So i ended up getting the benchmade griptilian. While looking around on the web i found a orange one for 77$ so i decided to get it. Hopefully itll be here tomorrow.

Sounds like your in the market for a modern folder. If you like your kershaw then check kershawguy.com. When it comes to modern folders my knowledge is limited, however, of the ones I have checked out I end up liking the benchmades, or more accurately, their axis lock. I think it would be easier to give some suggestions if you would narrow down your specs. Anything helps - overall blade length, handle material preferences if any..... Sounds like you don't need an auto.

only off topic for this quick question. what kind of dog is that in your picture? looks like a fine mix. :)

I got here too late to do you any good.
But, the Grip is a good knife; should do well for you.

Great choice. It's difficult for someone new in the knife community to understand what distinguishes one model over the other. The Grip is unique in that it has a rounded handle. The handle causes it to ride a little fat in the pocket, but lends it incredible comfort and a secure grip, especially for extended cutting. Some people complain about the plastic handles, but they are very strong and take a ton of weight off the knife. Also, enjoy the axis lock! It's the fastest and safest locking system out there [only Cold Steel's tri-ad lock is stronger (but considerably slower), but not by much].

The grip is one of the most balanced user knives out there and a great starter.

For your next knife, I suggest checking out a Spyderco offering [Para 2, Stretch, Endura, Caly 3.5, Southard, and Gayle Bradley are all amazing choices].

I was actually looking for a para 2 but i couldn't find one so i got the grip. I cant lie, the fact that it was orange and not just black lended to the reason i bought it. will make it easy to find if i drop it.

That's an excellent start. Nothing beats finding a good knife store to handle lots of stuff that interests you. The intersection of looks cool on the internet and I love it in hand are a surprisingly small subset. As enthusiasts we should pay too much for a few knives for the value of finding this out in person.

What I did when I started was lurked around and found the more popular companies that had knives in my budget. A few good brands that have really good knives in the 40-60 dollar range are kershaw, spyderco, and benchmade. There are others but that's a good place to start. Look them up and see if any of those styles fit you, if so I recommend looking up reviews and trying one of theirs that is very popular to give them the best fighting chance. Kershaw I would recommend a leek, skyline, or cryo. Spyderco I would recommend a delica or endura. Benchmade the griptilian or mini grip.

I like to call him a badasset. He is a pitbull/basset hound mix. Kind of like a sawed off pitbull with crooked legs.

On topic - Nice choice on the grip. I'm sure you will love it... until your next purchase.
