Hi guys, new to forum and bought my first knife!

I de assisted my Zt 350 and I like it, but it is heavier than I prefer. The BM 940 is a nice knife. I like the pm2 more. I think the pm2 isthe best edc on the market for the money, and maybe the best edc period.

Welcome... Nice first 2 to choose from...

Now either buckle up and hold on, or get the hell out, quick, while you still can ;)

If I had to have one knife, and I worked in your environment, I would get a Spyderco Delica. It also comes in all stainless so you can autoclave it if needed. The Titanium SPyderco Sage would be a good choice too.

If you look for something else for your EDC rotation, a little less "threatening" due to the nature of your job, I'd recommend the Kershaw premium skyline.

Small and sleek, carbon fiber handles make it that much lighter to carry, but the 3" s30v blade is still enough to tackle most any task... It really gives me the feeling of decent sized knife disguised as a much smaller knife...

If I could buy one knife, regardless if cost to EDC, if it meant not being able to carry my other Knives, I wouldn't... If it was to add to my current rotation, it would be a Boyd Winged (bds) Prophet with custom scales and an etched blade...

I almost gave a +1 on getting a used sebenza because of the $300 dollar limit then I kept reading. I agree it takes time to really decide what you like, don't like, need. Journey is very exciting and if done right doesn't have to be an overly expensive one, but it will be, just a heads up.;) just start picking up what you think you would like and let your tastes and needs help your collection evolve. By the time you get your sebenza, or whatever your grail knife is by then, you'll appreciate it that much more. Once you get into stuff like benchmade and zt you're already in the upper level of product, none of them will be bad.

Solid advice! Im thinking that i will end up keeping the benchmade because it isnt as scary looking, except the combo serration and black blade, but other than that, im excited to get them in today!!!!

i may just secretly end up keeping both and trade or save up for this sebenza, haha.

I'm going to assume given your work environment that you'll want a blade length at around 3" or less in a modern folder. I recently transitioned into a "civilized" office work environment and it's no place to whip out a ZT0200 to open a package, lol. There's a whole world of traditional slipjoint folders that make great office carry too.

In the sub $100 category you could consider a Delica, Dragonfly, Skyline or RAT2. Perhaps the small version of the Recon. The Mini Grip is a great choice.

Between $100 and $200 there are any number of Spyderco's that might be suitable: Native 5 G10, GB, Centofante Memory or the Damascus Ti Delica come to mind. The premium Skyline hits at right about this point. There's the Benchmade 530/531 (although the ergos are a bit odd on that knife) or the 940/943. Kizer makes some great 3" framelock flippers in this price range. The ZT 0450 is a sweet knife too.

In the $200 to $300 range there aren't that many knives that come to mind right off the bat that have a three inch blade. One that I've gotten recently that's rocking my world for office carry is the LionSteel TRE in G10. Sweet little package of pocket love. There are many upscale Spydies you can get in this price range too...problem is they're a $150 knife dressed up in $150 worth of bling. You have to make your own decisions on value and suitability.

As others have already said, if you can push your window up to around $400, you're now in the range of a small Sebenza 21. The CF version is riding in my pocket right now and I couldn't be happier with my EDC.

Good luck. Be forwarned: Knife collecting is an addiction and can lead to budget abuse.

Any Benchmade you like the most. Never had a ZT or spyderco, but I have heard good things.

ZT 0450 would make an awesome office knife:

Also look into the Spyderco Manix 2 Lightweight (also comes in not-so-tactical blue):

just got my first experience with the ZT 0350, So far im loving it. The handle doest seem too bad, love this assisted opening, but does seem like a lot for edc where most of my time spent is in an office.

I just need to find reasons for me to open/ tear down boxes and packages now.

received the benchmade and im in love!!! i think the benchmade will be it, but i will see

Glad to hear that your instincts have been fulfilled on the choices. That ZT is really nice, I just didn't know if it would "work" in an office environment. Honestly, as long as your discreet, assisted openers work (my opinion) and they're fun. But it depends on the office, management, and your fellow employees as far as I'm concerned.

I'd break down a couple boxes at work with a knife, but if I am breaking down a lot of boxes like in a warehouse or a merchandise stocking person at Walmart, I'd probably grab a utility knife.

makes total sense! yea my coworkers helped me pick out of the ones that came in today, but i had pretty much made up my mind about the benchmade. The assisted opening was really fun, but overall, I did want something more discreet and something my father in law would like later on.

Used small plain Jane 21 off the exchange can be had for a reasonable price and if you don't like it and didn't use it to jump start the starter solenoid on an old Ford you'll get most of if not all of your money back.

William Henry makes man jewelry in the form of knives that are totally acceptable in an office environment. At that price point you have lots of options, custom single blade slipjoints are a possibility too.

So im new to the forum and I just bought my first knife off of amazon. Tried to go to a local bass pro, but the person was not helpful.

anyways, I kinda wanted a good but affordable ($300 max) knife and it was between the spyderco paramilitary 2 vs the Zero tolerance 0350. I ended up picking the ZT Because the one i wanted was available. I have a ton of questions, but id rather not post them and not have everyone tell me to use the google machine.

If you had to buy 1 knife to carry around, what would it be. price doesnt matter. what would you carry and why.

Im looking for like edc type answers, but you can say whatever.

ALSO, im not the kind to use the knife for a ton of things... i work in a medical office if that says anything. But i would like to have one as part of my edc.

Bass Pro, Gander Mtn, Cabellas all have pretty significant markups. If you are not looking for auto's then you will be hard pressed to beat these prices: http://www.soonerstateknives.com/index.html
To answer your question for EDC, today I am thinking benchmade 940. 940-1 carbon fiber perhaps, but that S90V steel takes forever to sharpen.

I love the 350, but mine always seemed to cut up pockets (same with my 561) from the g10 jimping/corners. If looking for medical office carry, I would think weight and size would be factors. So my first choices based on what I have (not what I carry because I'm always in jeans with bigger knives) would be...

ZT0770CF (Assisted, carbon fiber)
ZT0450 (Ball bearing, titanium)
Or my newest delivery, Spyderco Chaparral. (Stiff backlock, but light and very good looking with CF over G10)

Well to me the Spyderco GB would be the answer, it's got that gentleman knife's look, but also is capable of hard use. But the most important part is that the knife represents me, since i was born in Taichung Taiwan, and my parents are Texans just like the GB.

A few other choices that i would consider would be

1:Benchmade 940 (light and tough and sexy looking)
2:Cold Steel Code 4(Love the look and consider how tough it is)

Hope that helps, if there's any other questions feel free to ask, BladeForum is like one huge family!

I do thank you for your input, especially regarding the bm 940. I am loving it!

I just got a bm 470-1, small gents knife, like carrying a bic lighter! S30v, spring assist, no liners. For a gentlemen's carry, there is nothing better. It is little, but good looking and great ergonomics. They make a bigger one, 477-1.
