Hi All, nice to meet you.
I'm a new BK-14 owner, from Rome. I came to this forum searching info in internet on this cool knife and especially on the fact that the sheath dulls the edge. :mad:
Anyway, I really like this kinfe and I really like the fact that there is a place in the internet where I can discuss about the BK-14.
This is my knife, already wrapped on both the handle and the sheath:

Whats up from Australia man :). If you having sheaths issues theres quite a bit of info here on how to fix it from filing down the hotspot to just buying a new one. Anyway, hope you like the 14, it was my first too.

Hi, well I'd like to keep the original sheath so I'm thinking to file it somehow, otherwise I'll try to make a new one from leather. Can you tell tell me in which tread I can see the sheat modded with file, please?
Apart the issue with the sheath, I really like the BK14! :thumbup:
 
Welcome aboard.
I'm sure you have seen plenty of mods here for the 14.
You can file down the little nub that rubs the edge but that gave mine a very tiny little rattle. A very minor irritant.
I did make a leather sheath for it after modifying and re-handling it. Consider investing in the zytel scales if you don't want to make your own handle.

Sorry man, your gonna have to try searching for it yourself. I dont know any of the thread names or really remember any of them since I never took much note because I've just been making replacement kydex sheaths rather than modding the existing ones.
 
Thanks guys, I spent a couple of hours browsing this section and now...I want to mod the sheath, I want to make this things on the back of the blade (jimps, or how you cal them) and I want try to make the scales! Mmmm, a lot of work to do :)
 
Hi guys, yesterday evening I used a small saw to cut a little bit off from the sheath where the knife touches the sheath, now it seems that the dulling issue of the sheath is fixed.
Then I attempted to make the jimps with a file, the result is not very impressive but it is still good (in my opinion) for a first attempt. I have to find a rounded file to make the jimps look better.

One question: how can I turn back to black the parts that now are no more black after I've used the file?
 
Hi All,
yesterday I finished the job on my BK-14; first I used a triangular file then I used the rounded file of a dremel, this is the result:

Now the job looks better but I still need to find a way to die the uncolored parts. Now the thumb does not slip anymore on the spine of the knive.
 
Your best bet if you want it to look good is to strip the whole knife then duracoat it so it all looks uniform rather than trying to patch in the little spots of the jimping. K-9 Handler does awesome duracoat work if you want to out source it.
 
I was gonna suggest the Duracoat as well. The clean up job on the jimping looks really good! Welcome to the addiction. Have fun with the scales. Drinks and cookies are in the corner, just watch out for the hog-tied moose over there.
 
Scales will take much longer for two reason: I like the paracord wrap and I need to study a little bit more on how to make the scales. Will keep you updated.
 
I've had my BK-11 since january and found the longer I have it and use it, the less dulling there is from the sheath.
 
I loved my 14, and now I love my 11. Great first becker, and next go for a 9! and a 2! and tweener, or 2 or 3!
