I was just thinking, wouldn't it be awesome if HI made a medieval longsword or bastard sword?
I've recently been looking around at a couple of companies who make these types of swords and they do not appeal to me at all, they look soulless in my eyes.

What would one look like? I'm curious. I've seen several varieties of swords they make. Maybe they already have something close?

You could always ask ms. Yangdu if one of the kamis would undertake such a task. Im waiting on a custom butterfly sword at the moment. Im sure she would try to help.

I saw something here a while back on a dotd that slightly resembles one, I think it was called a manjushree sword, I'll try to find that thread.

Would love to talk to her about getting one made, but I currently can't spend money on swords or even knives for a long time, maybe even a couple of years. :(

I Just posted this thread to hear what other forumites think about it. :D

Found some threads with pics of the manjushree sword in them. They give me an idea of how a longsword/bastard sword from HI would look like.

and yes I picked up the manjushree, its a great sword, I think HI could turn out a very high quality short sword or bastard sword for you, just remember how much work it is and all the extra metal adds up to extra price! a biiiig sword could be done but I suspect they will be in the high end, pay attention to the DOTD maybe someone already had the idea and one is coming to us !

Yeah, it's going to get costly, but well worth every cent. It would be very cool to see one pop up in the DOTD someday.

The tibetan long sword is the closest thing in their catalog. It is a little shorter and heavier than most production european style longswords or bastards. But they are very pretty and I want one.

Manjushree tend to be shorter--more like a gladius, I think.

I'm fairly certain I held a Manjushree when I was in Reno. It was wider of blade than the picture of the Tibetan Long Sword.

It was quite hefty and thick. Of course I wanted it too, I wanted them all.

I've seen the tibetan long sword before but I never thought it resembled a bastard sword until now that you mentioned it and showed me a good picture of it. It is very pretty indeed, and now I want to have one too, someday.
It does look like a bastard sword, the handle shape is very similar, the blade too, even when being single edged.

yeah basically you want a tibetan sword x2 for a HI bastard-- a good 5 fingers wide and about 12 lbs(at least I hope you do this)

I don't think you want that.
Try swinging a 10 pound bar around at the gym and then you'll likely rethink it.

actually the first sword i ever wanted came from my favorite scifi books -- called terminus est, it was like a english mayoral executioners sword with no tip, just a big slab of metal with edges, now in the book it was very elegant and i think filled with mercury, but ive always wanted an oversized executioners sword in the old english mayor style.(and if you have no dinosaur in the orgy why did you come to the party stabman?)

12lbs?! I would most likely dislocate my arms trying to swing that thing!

But yeah it needs to be big and beefy with good balance, just not THAT beefy if possible, although I do like beefy blades. :p

well they know the balance and stuff much better than me ! the kami know what they are doing and if you are patient, auntie can get them to make almost any practical thing you want.
