HI Needs Deer and Stag Antlers

Bawanna, how could I hate you? :o
At most you disagree and if that's it without any insults to spice it up I have no reason to hate you. Heck even could take some bad words from you because I know you a little bit and am sure you have good intentions, just like me.

Gehazi,
It's just another choice for people who prefer it. Could mean more revenue for HI, if they have the capacity to make a bigger variety. If however they are at peak efficiency and couldn't make more then trying to sell more than what's there would be wasted effort. So if there's room for G10 handles in production then why not. Wouldn't diminish the value of existing or future horn wood bone handles unlessG10 is so contagious that it messes up the whole product line :p

The thing about G-10 is you're supposed to wear a respirator and the kamis always refuse to use safety equipment. Could be bad for their health.

If that's the only reason than there are many other plastics FRN being one of them.
G10 just being carved and drilled at normal Kami speeds shouldn't dust as much. I doubt they have dremels and stuff like that.
Anyways taking care of the Kamis health is important. Personally I wear a mask even when dusting around wood even if I'm a tree hugger

G-10 is bloody lethal. I don't like using it even with a respirator.
It's also very hard on tools- i cut a lot of micarta with my wood bandsaw, no problem.
One set of g-10 1911 grips and the blade was toast. The other downer for the kamis would be rattail tangs-with wood or horn you burn them on- with micarta and g-10 they have to be drilled/filed.
I did exactly one g-10 hidden tang knife. Took forever to get the tang fitted. Chiruwa handles would work.

That's one of the reasons I like the chiruwa style grip. If anything ever did go south, I could put on a set of micarta grip panels.

I hate G10 FR4 and carbon fibre but there is nothing stronger than prepreg construction when you absolutely have to have it. I have worked with it plenty but still hate it! But then again I love its performance. Arrrrrgghhh! Im itching just thinking about it. I doubt the Kamis would touch it and im glad they dont. Your right Philll it would cause all kinds of health problems for them.

The folks in these countries have a slight different perception on health and safety.

In my last trip to India, I saw a guy doing arc soldering without even eye protection or gloves. I wish I had taken a photo as this was great Darwin Awards material.
He was sitting on a concrete floor, only wearing small shorts which was barely enough to cover his nuts, working the a metal pieces on the floor very very close to his exposed legs.

I know the damage to the eyes doesn't take long, but I wonder how long it takes to make you bind.

I tried to find horns, stag or Antlers for sales around here.

Since I'm living in moose and deer land, I thought it would be easy... Well, it's not. I'm surprised how little there was for sale. Most pieces were already sculpted in some art forms or still mounted on the skulls. Ether ways, either too small or too expensive to buy (starting over $250).

Then I wonder about exportation laws. Many organic stuff can carry diseases and are not easily allowed to cross borders. There are also wild vs bred animals rules.

I heard that water buffalo horns are really cheap in Asia. Would this also be a good material for handles?

ie currently on ebay for 26$ ranging 5" to 7"

I have a few sets of antlers for HI, I just don't know how big of diameter is needed. Not too many deer antlers are going to be even close to the size of a standard khuk handle. I've seen a photo of a khuk with a antler tine for a handle but it wouldn't be too functional. I have sent Yangdu an email, heck I can even drop them off to her in person.

Sometimes they use them for the tools that go with the khukuris. Small may be OK?

yeah they need them for commissions for people who requested horn-- probably for little tools , so dont be shy about sending in the dimensions you may have what she needs-- same here on trying to find them, they are not as plentiful as I expected, and people really dont want to sell them as i assumed they would, most people around here see them as trophies from past kills and selling it is like selling a memory ;( I am no hunter but don't deer shed antlers? could we find some kind of reserve and call them about laying about antlers ?

there are several very expensive antique european swords with narwhal grips, i mean , unicorn maaaan

I received these antlers yesterday and they are very nice, thank you

I have a couple that look similar to the top one there, bigger crown I think Karda called it, I didn't figure it would work. I'll send em. I don't know nothing about making horn handles.

JW? What kind of horn is that in the lower right corner, never seen nothing like that?
