Might as well make the sheath while your at it.

All four were made using Mora blade blanks. I'm not super fond of their scandi grinds, So just about all the ones I have put handles on have been given away. But at least the steel is decent.

O.B.

I do have a mora-inspired design in the works with a passaround being organized in the JK sub-forum. The knife should finish around the end of next week.

To be clear, I design the knives and have them made by JK knives currently, who is also here on the forum.

Gotcha. I didn't know that. I am still head over heels for the high point scandi you drew up a week or two ago. Please send me the link when you get it set up. I love that knife!!!!

Of course you know, I hope, that Kellam doesn't make anything. All their puukko are done by Ahti and other finnish makers from what I've read. Less expensive to buy from Ahti on Ragweed Forge. Nothing wrong with Kellam their contract knives are nice, just too many folks think they are the actual makers.

Helle laminated blades are awesome!

Helle makes some very fine Mora style knives. Kellam knives used to have a store in Lantana FL just north of me. A friend has a Wolverine model that is stunning. Carbon steel of very high hardness, great slicer. The store is gone and I’m not sure if Kellam is still around but their knives are freaking awesome

Thanks for that! I looked up Helle and really like their knives. Can you speak to their quality? They seems pretty well-received/reviewed..

Sounds like Helle is pretty well-regarded here then? I particularly like the Symfoni and Viking...Wonderful simple sheaths too, which look great. I trust those on this forum well over any YouTube review I might encounter...

I have a couple Helle. Have the Viking - awesome. Don't have the Symfoni, but have other close to it in design (Harding,Brakar). Excellent knives. Don't think you can go wrong with Helle. I also got some bare Helle blades a while back and crafted my own handles, etc. Fun if you like that sort of pastime.

The quality is excellent, very nice fit and finish. I’ve used mine mostly for whittling while on a deer stand so have not used it hard. I would certainly buy one again.

Among the Morakniv catalog you can look at the Classic Original, which has a laminated blade (O1 core and 1035 sides), simply oiled handle and leather sheath. Beware though that the handle is quite on the petite side, mine is 102x24x19 mm, so may feel very little in bigger hands.

Otherwise from Mora, you may take a look at the already mentioned Ahti Metsa, then the Iisakki Jarvenpaa Vuolu, the Kauhavan Puukkopaja Yleispuukko and the WoodsKnife Perinnepuukko, all different rendition of the same basic pattern.

I have the Kauhavan Puukkopaja Yleispuukko and it is nice, performs well, but somewhat generic. Good sheath and finish. Wood Jewel has similar ones (those blades between 75-95mm length are very useful). Classic moras have narrower, pointier blades, though.
