Hi there.. Need another knife!

So one thing I just noticed is that some of these are point up when in your pocket. Not sure I like that...
Years ago, tip down was the only option. Now, many - of not most - knives have holes to allow tip up, tip down, right and left hand carry. I've never had a tip up knife open when it was clipped in my pocket... i've had tip down knives open three times. The first two resulted in me getting poked in the leg a few times (i didn't say stabbed, despite the temptation, because i'm not a drama queen - I don't remember there being blood either time. The last resulted in a big slice through my (then) favorite pants.

Honestly, I like the Kershaw knockout. Carried one for 6 years. They cost about 60 bucks, and it's an assisted flipper. I think Kershaw makes very good knives for the money.

....Just like you, I wanted to try something new, and I made the mistake of buying a Spyderco Para 3. Fair warning, try one at your own risk....

It's a "Spydie Wagonwheel" of wonderful :thumbsup::thumbsup:
B.T.B.

PM2 for sure. It's what I carry 80%. It's a classic for a reason and probably the most sold knife for those in the know. Great ergos, relatively light weight, super slicey but durable. Also has a great fidgit factor if that's your thing. I love the Spydie hole, makes opening so easy with/without gloves on. If I could recommend one knife to any person, it's the PM2. Keep an eye on the exchange as you can get the S30V versions for good deals. The sprints, not so much.

PM3 Lightweight. Also highly recommend. A slightly smaller but lighter version of the PM2. I recently got one and love it. It's starting to replace my PM2 for warmer carry. And only $100. I'll also throw in the Native 5 Lightweight as it's similar size the the PM3LW, with a slightly smaller grip and narrower profile in the pocket. Another great option.

I have a Bailout which is very similar to the Bugout and it is super skinny. Feels cheesy honestly but they seem to work well and have proven tough. Guys love them. I wouldn't want it to be my only knife. Maybe with thicker aftermarket G10 or Ti scales it would be an all-arounder, but that's another $50 or more on top of the $140ish for the knife. Now you are close to $200.

Barrage is out as I detest assisted knives. I don't see the point of them.

Cold Steel Code 4 is basically a all metal version of the Recon1. I have several Recon1s and they are very good knives with good steels (S35VN and XHP) now. I would pass on the slippery metal Code 4 verson and opt for the G10 Recon1 or even the American Lawman for more grip and lighter weight. They are a bit bulkier in the pocket than the PM2 and not as much fun to fidgit with, but a solid user knife. I have one in every pack. If you want to go lighter and slimmer, look at the Broken Skull. CS aren't pretty, but they are tough and capable knives with good ergos.

Thank you very much for your responses.
I will probably get one from each company... Just have to figure out which one first. Probably a PM2.. Need to decide and handle the benchmades as I can do that. Spyderco, not so much. Will see on which CS i get, but that will likely be further out.

Thanks again!

PM2 top choice then benchmade griptilian 20cv g10. Forget about the plastic flexing bugout. CS code 4 is not in the same league as these two (I would consider Recon 1). Hogue Ritter should be considered as well.

I own one Cold Steel
the AD-15.
It's a bit big, and a touch thick behind the edge. But it's been really fun to carry as an EDC.

I'd vote PM2 as well. The blade is the right length and thickness for most everyday uses. I carried it primarily for many years. I still like it today as well. Many variations on look and mods. For ~150 bucks, that would be my highest recommendation.

I have a few Benchmade as well - and they are great overall. But, I just couldn't sell myself on the axis lock. I also admit that I consistently had the pocket clip end upside-down because I was programmed by Spyderco. lol. I'm better at it now. ha!

I’ve actually been looking into the Spyderco PM2. Looks like a really solid knife. Will probably be a long time till I get it though.:oops:

I am surprised you mentioned PM2 and the Bugout.
I always thought of the Bugout as more of a lighter duty knife compared to the PM2.
I have the bailout with the aluminum handle and really like it.
But the post seems to be strong for the PM2....... so I'll agree PM2.
