You can just use a piece of string. For future reference, you don't have to trim the wick to adjust the flame -- push the wick in or pull it out.

You'll find it easier to push the new string wick in if you wax it. Candle wax works fine, beeswax is better if available.

Has anyone handled a fire piston ? It uses rapid compression of air to ignite tinder on the tip of the plunger.

Back when I smoked a pipe, I never, ever, found a lighter that beat the plain old Zippo and, believe me, I tried.

I wouldn't look further, you've already discovered the best lighter. I've used helios when I used to smoke and if I ever to buy another lighter it will be Helios. There isn't anything better in my humble opinion. In fact, I'll go get one for my Dad right now
