Hi...

I feel you, man. I just paid quite a bit for a HR myself. The prices seem to be going up. I now realize the I got a good deal from Border Shift. I need to snag a CT and a black BR before it gets insane.

Welcome to the Swamp... That burn you feel is just the addiction settling into your veins. It'll feel natural in no time!

I feel that burning that you speak of and I like it. I just ordered two pieces of INFI this weekend (AK47 and HR, I'm hoping they show tomorrow).

Now I'm on the hunt for a good "Rat" :)

They are out there - keep checking the WTS/WTT board and the Bay - never know what you might find and there have been some good prices/deals latley - Weilers under $300!! ..... got to love the Rats!! :D

"some good prices/deals latley - Weilers under $300!! "

The RWs seem to have settled in at around $265 - $285. I didn't think they ever went over $300?!

I have seem a lot of RWs change hands, but little action on Battle Rats. What do you folks think would be a good price for a BR?

A Battle Rat in very good condition can be had for around $200 + or - .

However the Rat Weilers have gone for $300 or more at times - when supply has been tighter. I do think you are correct with your prices - currently. With the new modles coming out demand has slackened a bit - but if you want it now and not wait then you may have to pay more.

I paid $350 for an Urban Camo RW- was that too much?

Personally, that is more than I would pay simply b/c I have never been a huge fan of the urban scheme.

HOWEVER, if you love it and feel like you got a great deal then the answer is no, you did not.

Besides, the RW is one of the greatest values we will EVER see in the knife industry. The same knife from a custom maker will easily run you that much or more and not have the ease of resale.

Given the fact that the UC RW's are very limited, they would tend to go for more. I'm not sure how many were made, but it didn't sound like there were very many.

FWIW, I ultimately spent about $800 bucks for my black n tan Ratweiler. I sold a prior collection for $800, paid $200 for the RW and surrendered the other $600 to my wife. Ahhh...the things we do sometimes to justify a purchase. ;)

:D

very limited

That is an excellent point. IIRC, there were only around 10 or 12 of the UC RW's made, similar numbers to the OD RW.

That would bring the value up as well.

You better get a user black/black and put that one in the safe! :)

You only had to give up 3/4 to your wife? Wish I had that good a deal.

Yeah, I got off easy.

I still feel that it was worth it, though. :D

Battle Rats seem to be lower now. Glad for that b/c I wanted one. :)

HR's seem high to me, tho. $160 is the norm. For a $80 original-retail knife. Seems Camp Tramps are sellin higher than Battlerats too. Odd.

Thanks for the kind words on the UC- hope I can get that much when I sell it!- As you say, its a collector's item- I just got very eager to check out a RW (I had just finally gotten my CT). Now I want a user and I can't afford both!

Dennis is right- I paid more for my Camp Tramp than for my Battle Rat- they so seldom show up for sale, and go so fast I was just glad to get it.

They are all great knives, but I really need to pick one (or two) to keep and let the others go- I already have a FSH and now I have too many of that size knife. Very hard to let go of!

I am bound and determined that I will only get knives that I will use. Heck, I would even use a rare big $ custom if I actually found one that I really liked. With Busse or SR, I just can't see myself NOT using arguably one of the toughest, most versatile knives in the world. It would be like buying the Mona Lisa and then storing it away in a cool dark place. NO WAY!!!

And because I only have two hands and a limited amount of spare time in which to use my knives, I think very hard about what I want a particular knife to do. When that task is covered, I might get one more that will do the same task and can act as backup in the event that something happens to knife #1. Because I have a few knives that are great at a lot of things, there is some overlap with task specific knives I have. But all in all, I have been able to keep my knife purchasing down to a dull roar with this simple practice, at least so far :D . In turn, I actually find myself being able to spend more time focusing on things like sharpening, outdoor survival, etc.

Like anything in life (cars, power, women, guns, money, and yes, knives), it can be easy to get carried away. You just have to get control!

on the edge- That's exactly what I'm shooting for- and plan on ending up with. The problem with Swamp Rat and Busse (and most knives in this class) is that you can't handle them before buying, and half the time, you can't even buy them!

I started with the FSH- loved it, but wanted to check out the Camp Tramp and Ratweiler (also picked up a Howler since I could still get one from SRKW at the time). Along the way, decided I might as well check out the Battle Rat since I got it at a decent price.

I am now waiting on a Mud Razor- and then the "thinning of the herd" will really begin. My problem now seems to be that I like all these knives! Realistically, most are too large for my needs, but I do want to keep a decent chopper. They all seem to be such great designs and feel good in the hand.

Sample set of dilemmas- do I keep the BR because the price is better for a knife that will only see occasional use and the resiprene and shape is probably better for a chopper, or do I keep the FSH w/Mag scales because it is my favorite aesthetically and might be more of an all-arounder? Speaking of all-arounders- have you handled the Camp Tramp- smaller, lighter, and thinner but still feels like it could do some chopping. But if you're going to have one, shouldn't it be INFI? Obviously, I could go on and on (and do).

If you have any advice or suggestions, please feel free. I haven't wanted to use or sharpen any of them until I decide which I will keep, so that doesn't make the decision any easier, either.

What should I keep?

Which should I buy?

Which should I use?

ALL OF THEM!

Control? I'm not sure what you mean. Is that an English word?
