I have some left-over hickory trim from some kitchen cabinets we had done. It is moderately grained, not dramatic but interesting. Before I have it stabilized, any thoughts on pro and cons as wood for knife scales?

It's open-grained; be sure to seal it well. The stabilizing should help some.

I would bet hickory would be good for camp knives or heavy use kitchen knives. It's not flashy at all, but it is a very tough wood.

Stabalized and dyed brown at WSSI. I only added the dye to bring out the curl.
