Hickory Nuts

I was just talking to a friend last night about this "HICKORY NUT" thread to see if his trees had many this year. He told me that his 3 Shagbark hickory trees were loaded this year. So this morning early I went and got me close to a 5 gal bucket full of them. Surprised the squirrels didn't beat me to them because they normally do.

Now I was told by another pal that the mail order house that the Amish buy from known as Lehman's has a nutcracker that will do black walnuts and hickory nuts both. I've also heard of Cumberland General STore which is another mail order house that the Amish use but I don't know if they have a nutcracker and I'm wondering if any of you are aware of them.

What do you all use to crack your Hickory nuts with? I have in the past used a giant pair of Channelock adjustable Pliers and they worked but not the best.

Also let me know about the availability of any other Hickory/Walnut crackers that might be available somewhere on the open market.

I have a few Hickories, but no Shagbark. Pignut, Mockernut, and one that I believe is Nutmeg Hickory. Very tasty nuts, but a lot of work to extract.
