Hidden Factory Corrosion?

Found this under the locking bar on 2 of my Caly's 3: one used, the other brand new. Any idea?

All I'm seeing is two shades of grey, nothing that resembles corrosion. I would say that some portions of the bar have a rougher finish than others. Since that part of the lockbar is not normally visible and the lock spring does not slide along it, I would not consider that to be a problem.

This could also be residue from laser cutting, though I don't know if the lockbars are laser cut. In any event not an issue.
 
Not corrosion, just rough surface on a non-critical area. They've been alot better about the finish on these lately, but my 10+ year old endura has lots of that sort of thing.
 
My guess is that the lockbar's surface was (is) not completly even (small "valley" in the middle, or just random slip, who knows) so the rough area in the middle was not done during finishing process.
Not a big deal IMHO.
 
Nothing to worry about at all.
If the finish in that area mattered the factory would have polished it when they made it.

Agree with B. Bond. Polish it up yourself if it matters, or call W&R if it really bothers you and you don't want to do it yourself. Joe
 
Right under the springy thingy (I am not that knife savvy to know what are they called). Perhaps abrasion marks? Though I'm most likely wrong.

Anyhoo, good finishing cost money so less critial areas are not finished to nicely to save cost, at least that's how we do it in my business. Perhaps it is not necessary to have a nice finish there. In any case it don't look like rust. I'm gonna open up my Endura, Manix and Cara Cara to have a look, got nothing to do :)
 
That reminds me, if you do polish it up don't do it enough to change tolerances. That can cause more troubles than are worth it. Joe
 
It's not corrosion. It is a thin layer of slag caused be the cutting process. This happens when the steel burns away in oxy-acetylene and lazer cutting. Hydro jet cutting leaves a clean cut, but that is because it is based off the principles of erosion not rapid oxidation. Nothing to worry about.
