Hidden Pins - How Strong / Safe Are They?

Greetings,
I mostly have been building skinners with G10 or Micarta and attaching them with Corby rivets or pins (i notch them several times with a dermal and epoxy them in place when I epoxy the handle).

Transitioning to wood, I would like to try to preserve the look of the wood as much as possible. Question; Are hidden pins as strong as pins which have been inserted completely threw the handle?

Any advise or comments with regards too hidden pins would be appreciated.

I think you'll find them strong enough. When coupled with a proper epoxy and 4-12 hidden pins they will withstand alot.

It won't take much time to test it:

Cut off 4" of your bar.
Put hidden pins in it just like you will for a knife.
Let them cure completely.
And then try to get the scales off (with heat, a hammer, humidity, and anything else you can think of).

In other words, make a handle with no knife, and then test it to destruction. If it's strong enough to satisfy you, go with it. If not, don't.
