Hi Folks,

I have been searching all over for a broach like tool that could be used to remove the stubborn insides from a hidden tang handle. Currently, I have used every small point like, saw like, drill like object in my shop....with varying degrees of success. Is there a manufacture/producer of a broach suitable for this operation...should I try and make one from bar stock. Any ideas, suggestions, or points of reference would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for Your Time

The best one I saw was made from a reciprocating saw blade. Just grind off the teeth leaving 2 or 3 and some kind of handle on it. Drags out the inside fast.
Just what I do,

What Shawn said! John makes the best broach hands down. The ones that I have are fully hard d2. they are perfectly machined so that the cutting head is able to fit into the slot that they cut sideways so that you can widen the slot also.

I bought my first one from Riverside Machine but it wasnt happy with it. It finally broke after I ground off the sides to make it thinner. The screw kept coming loose too.

I have seen Johns before and agree they are the best ever. I ground mine from a planner blade and put a handle on it. Works fine but I still want one of Johns.

I think Brent Finnigan makes them. Have not used one of his before but the other stuff he makes is great. Send him and email and see if he will make you one.
