If you add a butt cap you can hammer a hidden tang better than a full tang IMO .... especially for tent pegs etc...there is more surface to strike with....although I usually use the side of the blade for such tasks ....
Never needed a skull crusher pommel .... yet .... but the weakness aspect of hidden tangs is over emphasized to me ... whereas on comfort they are noticeably better for me if shaped to your hand ....I shaped this one and it is my most comfortable knife ....
I strongly prefer hidden tang. I've beat my DF very well, and the hidden tang makes it more comfortable to chip with. On my smaller knives like a Spyderco Aqua Salt and S5, I've batoned them tons and never had any issue. Hidden tang saves weight, which is great for EDC's, and my hands certainly appreciate the handles in the winter.
