Hide Away Knife

Yes. They are a very nice addition to any collection. I don't really know if I want to go into urban combat with one but it wears around the neck very well and it is sized so that when ones 2 fingers ( index and next ) are in the hole, its very useful and not easily dropped or taken by force.

it is a nice compact, secure, and useful design. it is an excellent knife for light uses and as a 'last ditch' knife.

I carry one everyday..I see the utility and usefulness all the time. you can "score big" with the UHAK and if you dont like it youre not really out of too much money.

go for it

I always liked Frontsight's idea, and I agree about it's SD capabilities. But is it good for normal utilitarian use? Funny question from a guy that loves the Dodo... :o

I carry 2 usually every single day in addition to a folder and sometimes a fixed blade. They are useful. You will find yourself reaching for a HAK instead of your folder to make a small cut because they are so much easier and faster. I can't say it enough: just buy one. you won't regret it.

For utility, they are more secure than you'd think and cut great. Very handy and fun to use. Not having to put it down between cuts is cool too.

For SD, it's not something I'd try to scare someone away with. But if I'm in the middle of grappling with someone and want a blade, the more you carry a HAK, the more you start to think "maybe this would be my best choice..."

No fiddling to open it, no loss of your hand for controlling his limbs, no BS.

The biggest advantage is the many ways that you can carry the little jewel. If you look carefully at what Front Sight offers, you can hook up what she calls a "bikini" sheath almost anywhere on your body. If you buy the mounting studs, it can be put almost anywhere, i.e. your clothing, strapped to your body, etc. You can deploy it in ways that don't telegraph body movements. Actually, it's about getting a 2-3 second edge. The fact of the matter is that most "engagements" can be settled quickly, if ruthless, decisive action is taken. I believe that a person can use one to defend ones self, but practice is necessary. Take a good hard look at the website, because, truthfully, almost all of your questions are answered there. Essentially, you have a small piece of SV-30 that fits over two fingers, and the mode of employment is very intuitive. Be aware that it is VERY sharp, and buying the practice blade is a real intelligent thing to do. Repeat after me, wicked, razor sharp. So, it's a cool thing to have, if you can deal with an unconventional blade that requires thought and practice. By the way, Front Sight is pretty cool to deal with, and her blades are really popular among self defense oriented folk. It's just that most folks can't deal with the idea of being in a deadly serious situation, and using an unconventional system to save their asses.

They're really well designed for their purpose. As an general utility knife, the Straight Utility is pretty decent. I like the idea of being able to grasp it and still have my hand free for other things.
