I appreciate the fine art of hiding knife puchases from my wife. How many of us have purchased a knife that we really don't NEED, and either didn't tell our spouse, or made up some lame excuse for it? What did you say? Tell us your funny stories!

i think you should pay more attention to new shoes, handbags etc.. if you find some that you havent been told about you could always play that card when your wife finds a new knife.. :D

I generally tell her.. "Oh, that was some deal I bought for my mistress.. She laughs hysterically, and the topic is dropped."

Then I sleep on the couch for a week.

I am slowly converting her to the usefulness and beauty of knives.

She now carries a small SAK with her keys, and likes to use a box cutter to open stuff at home ....

next move is to get her her own, more beautiful little EDC knife.... not sure what yet.

She still has no idea of the size and extent of my collection.

But she knows I like traditional style knives as well as SAKs.

Deliveries from the postman are still a bit nerve-wracking for me.

If she's at home I try to intercept the delivery, otherwise I order them in my son's name. Everyone's mail is sacrosanct...
I bought her a new car recently but it didn't make me feel safe about buying any new knives.

It is so sad that grown men feel the need to hide their purchases from their wives.

I don't hide it, but I do get tired sometimes of people commenting on my hobby. So I am a little self concious about showing off new blades, because I may just tell them to mind their own f!@#in business- and I don't like being negative.

It's clear most of us need to ditch our wives in favor of nonjudgemental girlfriends. Sounds good, no?

I got caught up in a buying spree when I first became interested in knives. I tried to hide some of the purchases from my wife, but she pays all the bills, so she always found out:o

If I'm spending more than 50-100 bucks on something I don't "need" I generally think she has a right to know. After all, she works and pays the bills too. I do try to build up a slush fund periodically for stuff that I don't need and I don't generally tell her what I'm going to do with it. My last slush fund went to buy my Ruger SP101 and she didn't care; it wasn't money out of the household budget.

aaahhhhh, so nice to be single.........new knives almost every week or at least monthly

I have long ago learned that the wife, then girlfriend was too smart for me to outsmart as knife purchases go. This is however, my fault. I can not resist taking a new blade everywhere I go for a day or two. Looking for a use. Instead of hiding it, she is there for most purchases, 4 or 5 a year. Its a fun game of, whats that knife do, that your other 30 + dont, answer...not much, but i wanna! Use her sense of gift giving against her! She buys everyone presents for every occasion, so I make my gifts for whatever the occasion is a knife. Last one, SOG Gov-Tac (sweet!).

To quote the noted Bernard Levine "Wise man say: One little diamond pendant, properly presented, camouflage multitude of GREAT BIG knives."

Might not be perfectly appropriate to this thread, but close enough.

I don't tell my wife about new knife purchases, but I don't make a point of showing them to her either. If she asks, I tell her anything she wants to know. The only way to keep a good marriage good is by being 100% honest with your wife. That doesn't mean advertising everything you do that she might not approve of, but it does mean telling her the truth if she asks. My wife doesn't think I need so many knives, and I don't think she needs 17 purses, 31 pairs of shoes, 11 drop spindles, and god knows how many pounds of yarn/spinning fiber. We understand each other. I pay the bills in our household, and sometimes I am the one that sees where she spent a pile on something I don't see a need for lol, but I just let her know I saw it and let it go at that, head in to my stock, and get another knife for myself.

We argued and argued and argued some more. She is coming around to the fact that I cannot be changed. She's aware I'd spend everything on knives and is appreciative that I still take care of whatever needs to be taken care of.
Beyond that, I still have them shipped to my work address and slowly incorporate them into EDC rotation as to be less conspicuous. Since knives are all I really buy these days, I've been hearing less and less about spending on them.

My wife usually laughs it off too! Her shoes cost more than all my knives, so its a running joke between us. She says at least I am not as crazy about guns as I used to be! That was much more expensive :)

I work out of the house, so I get the mail every day! Makes it easy to say, " No babe, I've had this knife for a long time" :D

I'm awaiting shipment of a RAT7 to my office as we speak!

Knives that I order comes in small boxes compare to my Milsurp Rifles. The SWMBO just ignores the little boxes from the BBT now. Sometimes though I just mail it to my Dads home (only 20 miles away).
