I feel like I'm asking too many questions, but I want to make sure I do this right.

Bolsters and liners and pins are nickel silver. I've used a 2 degree tapered reamer on the bolsters and the covers. The covers and the bolsters are both 95-99% shaped. I know Don Robinson shapes then uses a #41 bit about 1/16 into the bolsters. I've seen people using a spade bit slowly turned by hand to make a counter sink. Ken Erikson uses the tapered reamer, if I remember correctly.

How do you do it, and should I add another small counter sink on top of the tapered hole?

Blacken the inside of your hole with Majik marker use the tapered reamer in a drill press, run it slow and only go about 30/1000 deep. The blacked part will allow you to see how deep you went. Don't do another champher on top of the hole.

Thanks Calvin. I won't do another chamfer.

As an aside, I found my little buffing wheel and chucked it up in my drill press this morning. I was very happy with how the micarta buffed out. I can't wait to get this thing together and buff it all out! Hurry up postman!! The blade and spring should be here today or tomorrow.

Thanks for asking good questions, otherwise it's me all the time, or at least that's the way it seems to me! :)
This forum is an incredible gold mine of tips and information, but only because so many questions get brought up for discussion.

Calvin always has the right answers. When he replies I read carefully just in case the information will work for me even in the future. Frank

I'll post pictures tomorrow, but I didn't get them hidden. Not because the holes weren't done properly, but because I must have gotten a piece of stainless in my nickel silver. The bolsters are silver with a slight under tone of yellow, like normal nickel silver, but the pins I used are clear silver colored with a strong blue tone, like stainless. Oh well, the action is good, so I'm not going to try to pull it all apart and repin it. I'd end up ruining a lot of work I think.
