High edge retention, thin slicer. m390 s90v etc models recommend?

Well, I consistently had better slicing results with my Gayle Bradley than with my 710 with M390, even through deep stuff that hollow grinds are rumored to be at a disadvantage. I love the 710... a lot, I just gotta work harder with it than with my GB. Maybe I'm doing something weird or wrong... dunno. It is what it is for me.
I just got a BM 581 and I'm freakin' loving it. It slices way better than my 710 (again, maybe I'm doing something weird... dunno) and may just bump the GB out of my top slot position. I do like Spyderco's M4 formula better than BM's M390 formula, but the 581 has great steel and the ergs are right on for me.

My gayle Bradley is a way better slicer than my para 2 sprint. It is a thin high hollow grind with slightly thinner blade stock than the para 2. It slices great and holds an edge a long time.

Agreed, the Gayle Bradley slices better than a Para 2.

Gotta eat my words!

I recently got a Gayle Bradley in trade so today I did a comparison test slicing an apple with it and a Paramilitay 2 M390 and you guys were right the hollow grind BG sliced better. I didn't think to put my flat ground BM mini grip M390 (which is my most used knife) into the mix. Looking at it next to the para 2 the blade is thinner so I expect it to slice better.

Of course we all know that sharpness and blade grind get the credit for slicing quality, and that he blade steel isn't a factor.

Gotta agree.
I just seem to keep a sharp edge longer with Spyderco's heat treats when compared to BM's.
Same steels different staminas. My Spydies seem to be harder and last longer... man, that almost sounds weird.

I'd go with the Gayle Bradley as well, its the best $150 I've spent to date! And the M4 is the business IMO

If you're going to cut through multiple thicknesses of cardboard, you're also going to need something with pretty robust construction that can shrug off rough use. My Gayle Bradley reprofiled to about 28 degrees inclusive with convexed shoulders is an amazing cutter, and the thick liners have zero flex and deflection. The CPM-M4 is very tough and still holds a very sharp edge for quite a long time and it's also very reasonably priced for the amount of engineering and high-end materials you get. The exchange has had a few of them for about $100 or thereabouts lately.

you can now Pre-order the Paramillitary II from Bentobox.com for around 180.00 dollars. previously only international orders were accepted but I checked the site today and there avilable for US now. I would highly recomend getting the Para 2 in M390. I have one and love it. You cant beat it.

Another vote for the Spydie Gayle Bradley; I regret selling mine. :grumpy:

The Benchmade 581 is an excellent bargain on the secondary market, I'd also recommend an S90V Military with carbon fibre if you can find em...

I like the way my manix2 in cpm m4 slices. You could always get anything reground to get the performance you want.

Especially coming from Wet Noodle. LOL

Back on topic, Spyderco's heat treat of M390 beats BM's for sure. My experience mirrors yours.

Well I've picked up an m390 military off the exchange. Though i haven't used it i just don't care for the knife so I'm going to turn it around. I did place a pre order for the blue m390 para 2 from bento. While my s30 para 2 was my first folder and i love it, now that i have a large sebenza 21 and hinderer xm24 to fondle who cares about slicing anymore, they make my spyderco feel like harbor freight issue hah!

That said appreciate the continued feedback and I'll stow the info about the gayle Bradley away for another day!
