I buy knives for what they can do AND for how I feel carrying them.

  • How well it was made (fit and finish)?
  • How rare it is.
  • Resale value.
  • What it's made from.
  • How attractive is the design

I have a lot of knives - some are value performers (Spydie Tenacious, Benchmade Vex). Some are customs and some are limited run productions. They all are knives that I enjoy owning.

That said, I carry a Spec Bump the most. I have five of them. You look around and you settle on what happens to make it into your pocket the most. And then you will never have to wonder.

I've used my Benchmade 940 at work every day for the last while now... it certainly out-preforms the Tenacious I had been using before, as well as my Kershaw Leek, Blur, SOG Twitch 2... or maybe I just like the damn thing too much.

Aside from the slight improvement in blade steel that you might see by going from AUS-8 or whatever to one of the "better" steels, paying more absolutely does not make the knife function better. It may make you feel better. You are paying for the emotion of enjoying a spendy knife. But an Umnumzaan does not open a bag of mulch any better than does a Delica 4. Anyone who tells you that a $420 superknife cuts a box open 14 times better than a $30 Ontario Rat-1 is delusional. It might make you feel 14 times better, and thats cool. Just realize what you are paying for.

I have a PITS folder (one of the first 20 ever made) that I got for a bargain at £150. The first 20 were charged out for set up cost and materials. Now they're in production they retail for £250. I use it a lot but rotate with my other EDC's. I love using it for the unique engineering that goes into it and the comfort and pleasure I get from using it and flipping it.
I don't see the point of drawer queens, so all my knives get used.
Buy it, use it and enjoy it.

I edc a ZT 0301. Its fun to carry a nice knife. Sure all knives cut, but some look damn good doing it. I say spend your $250 on a ZT, best bang for the buck.
