High end folders worth it?

I just sent the remainder payment... for my next DDR... $1950 all in.

I just have a bad feeling that this is going to lead to more than my wife will be happy with me spending in the future. Thanks for all of your input.

Don't worry, we will enable and encourage your new addiction as best we can.

This is going to sound harsher than I intend it to and please know, that zero offense is meant. Honestly.

IMO, the price of your knife should be roughly proportional to the price of your car, watch, pen, shoes and shirt.

In "Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance", Pirsig said that quality is that which produces peace of mind. Know your own mind.

In term of function, get yourself $15 Opinel. Cut stuff. Try to break it. This will tell you that you can do anything you need to do with a $15 knife, just like Pirsig could ride across the country on a beater Honda. But peace of mind for you, might be on a BMW, and that is OK.

Whitehead said, "Seek simplicity, but fear it." I say, "Seek quality, but distrust it."

Not to pry but out of curiosity, what watch do you wear? Is it proportional to the Opinel you swear by? (I love that picture of that opinel + Leatherman btw).

XDsteve. Right on with the seb purchase. I am new to the crk's, only had my first one for a few months. I will tell you that they are beautiful and you will love yours. This purchase may lead to others, I've acquired an umnanzaan and a reg 21 to go with my insingo 21. Keep sharp, be happy.

Send your Sebenza to me...

I don't think that they are. To me, it's like the guy who drives the BMW as a status thing when it doesn't do things any better than a Honda Accord. I'm a form follows function kind of guy. A BMW or Audi will not do anything better for me than a Honda Accord or a Jeep. A $900 Hinderer doesn't cut any better than a $120 Spyerco Paramilitary 2.

You're probably right about the knife comparison. Cutting is a much simpler task than driving. However, you are definitely wrong about the car comparison. A Honda Accord will never hold a candle to a BMW 335 or an Audi S4 in any meaningful category, nor should it. They are simply in a different class. If you think that any car is as good as the next, you are mistaken. With so many mechanical differences between models, how could that possibly be true?

Holy shit I just pulled the trigger on a large 21 CF. I'm on cloud 9, Saturdays mail can't get here soon enough.

An excellent decision. I purchased a large 21 CF as my first CRK about two years ago. It was my first "high-end" production knife, and I was concerned that it might not justify the steep increase in cost.

The Sebenza 21 CF is the best knife I have ever purchased, and it caused me to sell off a large amount of my collection. It helped me identify the qualities I appreciate in knives and set a standard by which I can compare other knives to.

I enjoyed the 21 CF so much that I purchased a small 21 CF last year to use in slacks. Next on the radar is a plain Sebenza 25, which I intend to use as my primary weekend carry/camping knife.

Sebenza in hand. My first impressions are amazing. What had impressed me the most is how tight everything fits together without making the knife hard to manipulate. When I've heard about the "bank vault" lockup I thought to myself "I have knifes that luck up great, how much better can it get?" wow, this lock up is crazy. Thanks everyone for the advice. As of now if someone poses this question to me I'll say "when I got my 1st Sebenza I was on cloud 9 and very happy I pulled the trigger." :)

1 more quick note. I'm already pricing up some of my belongings to see what else I can afford to buy. Oh no...

If only CRK could make an XL Sebenza. Maybe a 4.75" (sharpened) blade length with a thickness of .160" and equally thick Ti slabs.

The more I play with it in starting to feel the same way you do. It's built with amazing care and quality but it just feels too small. I guess I'm used to my TI Military but I'm not sure I'll keep this one. It'll probably be on the sale page soon. I just think I need something a tad bigger. uploadfromtaptalk1404734515118.jpg
