Just wondering if there is a difference in steel quality and edge-holding ability between the S30V blades found in an expensive high-end knife such as a Sebenza versus a more affordable knife like the Spyderco Native.

What say ye ?

The steel is the same. The heat treat and geometry is what is different.

Which heat treat is better? No idea. But both companies do good work.

Both knives are hallow ground, but the Sebenza has a very high hallow ground, so it will offer less resistance deeper into the cut.

Which will cut better depends more on what you want in cutting performance than it does on the price.

The Sebenza does not cost more because it cuts better or because its S30V is magic. The Sebenza is worth every penny (and then some), but the Native is an amazing bargain.

Well, price considered, I'd MUCH rather buy a Native...they're good knives (I've had a VG10 and S30V one). But if we went to the more reasonably priced S30V/G10/Titanium stuff between 100 and 180 dollars, it gets trickier....for me, better handle materials are worth it for looks and feel alone, but as a good cutting impliment, it's hard to do better than the Centofante (or Native).

Except for the D`allara drop point of course...now that's a deal...
