Anyway, given that you're looking at an SUV because you need more room, but won't buy a station wagon or minivan
Interestingly, of our fleet of vehicles, my wife's AWD Volvo wagon is the most generally useful. It's easier to put canoes and kayaks on the roof, or to load on a cargo pod, than it is on our more truck-like 4x4s. It has more useful cargo room than many SUVs. It has a handy 3rd-row seat for transporting the little ones. It goes fast, handles well, and has decent ground clearance. It can tow a reasonable amount, and works fine on a boat ramp with the AWD.
