Hey HD how did you find the Skookum ?
Well, excellent.
There was several evenings I was too exhausted from the heat to feel like I could weild my hatchet safely and I used it to cut some say 2 2 and a half inch firewood by whittling to where I could stomp on the limbs and then crack them.
I used it for some food prep too and it did ok there.
On the critical side I would say that I missed the Nessmuk for spreading stuff and stirring stuff and sometimes eating off of since the Skookum is narrow off on the end there.
Another criticisim was the sheath. I said this in another thread but with the heat the neck sheath was hot and also with all the sweating it actually corroded the butt cap in only 8 hours of hiking:thumbdn: It will fit in my Bravo 1 JRE sheath and also in an old Howling Rat Sheath I have so I'll use that instead.
Also the neck sheath got in the way when putting the breast strap of my pack, tying my boots and using the water filter. I like neck sheaths for just dayhikes and wandering about in the woods, but for backpacking esp in hot weather the belt sheath makes more sense for me.

This was a "set up" pic. Actually all this little stuff I just snapped off by hand. I did use the Skookum on some larger stuff the night before though.

Coffee!!!
