High Quality Air Rifle?

BaldTaco just think of me as the king of the Zombie army....
If I had one gun to shoot for fun out of everything I ever shoot it would be an air rifle. There is something about it that makes it so much more fun. Ok now I'm going to rant but last night I were checking out pics of BSA Meteor and remembered the good times. We used to shoot wooden matches at 20 steps, Eggs at 30 to 40 steps. Used to hunt patridge as a kid http://www.tatzpit.com/site/en/pages/inPage.asp?catID=9&subID=13&subsubID=802 . Only way I could kill it were head shoots If you shoot it in the body they always got away No idea if they died later or the pellet never even went past the feathers. Jack rabbits I got only 3 times once a body shoot and then run and chase it for 30 min, He was bleeding all the way. Once a head shoot with a pellet then had to shoot him again for the kill. Learned on my own how to skin and clean it. the last one with a dart, Head shoot but the dart just went right thru the head with an instant kill. Could never hit anything again with those damn darts (always aimed for the head) and couldn't figure out how to make poison for body shoots. I were the kid that always got into things and had lots of the bruises to show for it. Even shoot my self in the leg once.
Now I got a winchester 800x air rifle and don't like it. The safety stick and when you pull the trigge nothing happens and then when you move safety again it would shoot on his own. And it still sort of fun to shoot it. I also got a recipe for poison to dip the darts in. I feel like a kid again I think I'm 30 years younger now...

Sasha, hey...................I haven't fired one in ages. I did keep an old Greener and a Webley on after I stopped for sentimental reasons. The Greener has gone now but I still have the old Webley MK3 somewhere, and probably always will.....................I recall saying before here in one of those EOTW threads that for small game getting here I'd prefer an air rifle. Not like I give much brain space to those EOTW threads, but for ease of maintenance, reliability, convenience of ammunition [LEM moulds in real desperation], noise and whatnot I could put a wide variety of food on the table every day. Sure, I'd want a bit more poke than the legal restriction here but not huge. I've pushed HW80s to 18 ft /lbs by tweaking rather than just adding grunt and they shot very nicely. Good enough for taking Branchers reliably 'cos that can be a tough shot 'cos of where they are, and well, it's crow innit.

I have a Crossman Optimus and like it alot. I bought the .177 model, and wish I had purchased the .22, but to piss off the resident Possums, the .177 works just as well.
