High quality EDC automatic drop-point for $200-$300?

Lots of great suggestions, thanks guys!

I really like a lot of the Hogue autos, I just wished they used something other than 154cm. While this seems to be a "good" steel, it's not a top tier steel. But their designs are awesome and I still may add something to my collection down the line.

I know Protech is a top-tier auto-maker, including their Strider SNG collaboration. But once again they seem to use mostly 154cm, which wouldn't be my first choice. It seems they do special runs from time to time and I'm going to start tracking them to hopefully get my hands on a damascus blade perhaps.

I am really leaning towards adding a Protech Strider SNG auto to my collection shortly down the road too. I've always wanted a strider folder and the fact they're now offered in an auto is awesome! I just gotta keep an eye out for a more premium steel. I really like how they use 7075 on their handles though, it's like a 70% increase in strength over 6061!

How often does Protech run specialty steels like the D2 & Damascus options on their blades?

Those Piranhas are pretty cool for sure, I'll need to look into them more.

what I do know right now is that the Microtech LUDT is definitely my first choice. I have an Ultratech and absolutely love it. I love their design and quality of materials used and the LUDT has that premium steel for a very reasonable price point.

It does seem most LUDT's are sold out every where, I imagine these come out in batches every so often.

Does anyone know how often new batches his the shelves? I know bladehq probably moves a ton of their product and gets a big shipment when they are ready. I guess these just sell out fast?

Does anyone know if they run this gray & apocalyptic stonewash finish often? I'd like to get one of these color combinations for sure:

Kershaws and Sebenzas are also really nice, I may think of adding something from either/both of these auto selections to my collection later down the road too.

Thanks!

ProTech offers a lot of its catalog in Damascus, but they’re closer to $500. Otherwise, they seem to pick one steel for a model and stick with it. The more “tactical” models have 154CM and occasional D2, while some of the more EDC-oriented knives have S35VN. They’ve just started using 20CV on some manual models, too, so hopefully that will find its way to the autos.

IMO , the Benchmade CLA is a good choice. And while it might be considered overpriced, it really isn't.

I've been shopping for another auto too and I've noticed most of the premium brands only offer anodized aluminum frames in their lower priced knives.
Once you start looking at any models with inlays or g10 scales the price shoots up.

So while the BM steel is not the most premium steel you can get, it's more than adequate.
IMO it's durable knife that won't look beat up after using it for a year.
It's on my wish list.
Agree - the CLA is my fav EDC auto
