High quality felling axe…

lol! Sure.
Eh. Plenty of flat-cheeked vintage axes out there and plenty of high centerline axes available these days. It does mean you have access to styles and specific geometries no longer available new, though most will have at least some degree of wear on them. Nothing wrong with a good vintage axe, but they also aren't magic, and much depends on the specific ones that cross your path by chance.
lol. Just kidding around about magic!!!!

Reasonable pricing was not a factor. I picked up a Granfors Bruk. Gonna keep looking for something cool that is just something I gotta have. I have most of the knives I could ever need. Gonna throw that nerd gene into axes for a minute.

Sent you a profile post. I have some vintage axes that could use a new home from when I was in a similar search. I settled on a CT jersey before they changed to the sport utility line and Rinaldi Trento for felling.

Which GB did you wind up getting ?

I have some vintage felling axes I would consider selling. I have been collecting for a little over a year and a half. Kelly, Plumb, Collins, Craftsman. I could stand to part with a few to make room for new old ones.

Isn't there someone of us who finds great old American made axes in good condition from the usual second hand sources, cleans, sharpens, and rehangs them as users, and sells them at reasonable prices to other members of our little clan who are not talented enough to do the work themselves? I own way more users than I can justify. I'm just not ready to guarantee my work if I were to sell it to someone else. T-A
I don't think people are willing to pay what a talented person would need to charge.

Even those with both the skill and equipment to do the work are only able to sell at fair prices for their labor through ABUNDANT use of a hype machine of some sort. Otherwise people will just not pay for the labor involved.

Here are a few of mine I’ve invested little money in but have quite a bit of time invested into. There are Kelly, Collin’s, Craftsman, Bluegrass (db), and Sandvik, and a Marion. I had to cut the pics down to post. I did them in color and b&w. The mask on the little WC Kelly boys phantom bevel is causing the “sticker” to be incomplete in color. I’d add that they vary in wear and overall “condition of cleanup”. The boys phantom bevel is pitted something awful, but I have $5 for it and it’s still one of my favorites even though I killed the patina on it…Had I not, I’d have never known what it was. I’d swing it all day, as far as a user goes. It isn’t worth a lot due the the current condition, but I think it’s pretty rare, so I don’t use it. Btw, it’s the black and white sticker that is boogered up. I’d swing any of those axes, with varied results of course. I’d bet they are still better than some new market examples, not as good as others. But I’m a vintage nut and don’t own any new axes. Fwiw. Thanks
