High Quality/High End Folders

so long as you are considering custom makers, greg lightfoot makes a very stout folder.

About any of the knives from Buck's Custom Shoppe.

High quality folders at a fair price.

are younuts emerson makes some of the best knives out there.

I have owned bout eight over the years , found very patchy fit an finish , spotty QC . I like the designs , the execution is the problem . Wanted to buy one of the new snubbies , really wanted it . Checked out three at a dealer , one had lock fit issues , the other two had fit an finish issues . One guy I know who collects them , wont buy sight unseen on line any more . I had a CQC7 that would fold up with firm pressure on the blade spine . Never mind a whack !

There was a time when they were the only game in town , now there is better gear for the pricepoint .

YMMV , respectfully ,

Chris

Just got the ZT 0200 today, very pleased the quality of both materials and workmanship seem good to very good. The fit and finish is good to very good as well, the only thing is the screws for the pocker clip are too long, its ok if have it mounted for tip up carry but if I mount it for tip down carry the screws prohibit the blade from opening all the way, only about half or three quaters and the then the back end of the blade hits the screws as they have traveled beyond the depth of the steel liner and G10 slab.

All in all though I am really pleased with the knife for the money, seems to be very well manufactured. I would like to see one made that is same overall dimensions, such as thickness, height, but only about an inch shorter, and that would just about perfection for me, but hey theres 8 billion other people on the planet right, so why not let someone else have a say.

another vote for the ZT line. Very strong knives. super good warranty (visit the Kershaw forum and browse a bit. you'll get the idea). can't beat em IMO

I second the motion, you'll find that us kershaw people are flat-out hell-bent to make sure that you go out and buy another one. Including great personal sacrifice. If you chop off a finger with your ET, someone will probably send you one of theirs. Even if you have an issue, you'll get a line of people begging to help. I challenge other brands to bring that kind of support!

Sebenza's may not have the heavy build of the others but make no mistake as they are using knives. With the ZT's you get more knife for the money than any other brand out there, IMO, of course. The Blade-Tech Rijbak is a heck of a folder that has terrific fit and finish and one of the best fitting locks I've seen in a while. As for Striders, I only have one, an AR, but I have a second AR on order and should be getting it very soon. Those .100" to .105" liners backed up by thick G-10 make for one stout folder that could be considered almosta framelock.

If there is a certain custom knife you want, you might get in touch with one of the knife purveyors and see if they would pick one up for you next week in NYC at the East Coast Show.

Hmmm, Cris Reeve calls the Sebenza a "hard use" knife and I'd tend to agree with him. If you can't get it done with a Sebenza, I'm thinking you'll need a fixed blade. But then again, I don't consider putting a pipe over the handle and prying with it "hard use."

Seriously, the Sebenza has one singular advantage over just about every other folder out there - you NEVER have to adjust the blade tension because the pivot joint tightens on a bushing, not the blade.

That said, the Sebenza is also an absolute minimalist design. There is just enough handle to cover the blade. See if you can locate a dealer that carries the Sebenza. If it fits your hand and you like the minimalist ergonomics you'll be set.

On the other hand, even used Sebenzas have excellent resale values so you can dump one and just about get your money back.
