High quality knives in the wild?

I usually see Leeks and Shallots here, mostly among professionals (plumbers, contractors, mechanics, body men).

I have converted my coworker into a knife maniac like myself. He carries a ZT0350TS, SOG Kilowatt, BK17, CRKT Ripple and a couple others I think. I have loaned out and/or gave away a few blades around the workplace, so I see those fairly often. Also, I talked another coworker into a RAT2 folder.....which he LOVES. My immediate goal in life is to convert my entire work place into a knife expo! :)

Other than that, I had a customer whip out a Benchmade Contego folder (badass) and another had a Benchmade 940 w/ green handles.

Haha I do the same thing! I got one co-worker to buy a Cold Steel Recon 1 and another one to buy a Byrd Cara-Cara. Then I bought one of the other guys a Kershaw Tremor. Nothing better than getting more people carrying knives.

I met some dude at the San Jose flea market out here in the bay area. He ran one of those shops/stands that sell gear (eg. "Cheapo" knives, flashlights vest, etc.). Him and his buddy were talking about knives and he brings out a zt0300st, ranger green w/tiger stripes out of a pouch. Ended up buying on of those Rober Dalton Cupid knockoffs. Not very good but I modded it since. Super smooth now😀.

About 2 months ago I saw some guy carrying a BM 300sn clipped to the OUTSIDE of his left pocket at a mall in Lynnwood, WA. Was tempted to strike up a conversation, but what kinda knucklehead clips their knife to the outside of their pocket? Couple years ago saw a guy with a Strider at a carbine class. Other than that, zip.

Not much. Mostly low end Kershaw knives that you find at sporting goods stores. A bm grip or two. A new friend brought a bk-2, or whatever the stupidly thick knife is, camping. Totally not impressed with that one and my military vastly outperformed it in every way. Useless design, IMO.

The better question is: of all the well used knives you've seem in the wild, how many had been SHARP after the initial edge is worn down. Anyone can Pop online, see what's popular and spend a lot on a good knife. I'm more inclined to give someone props if they use the piss out of their knife, any knife, and keep it sharp. Most of the Kershaw and Gerber knives I've run across in the wild have been folding butter knives.

lol that's too true.
I'm always told my knife are too sharp. But I tell em a sharp knife is a safe knife. Once you accidentally cut yourself with a dull knife & a sharp knife one. Hands down I rather be cut a sharp.

Also converted a coworker and the first knife he went after was a benchmade 550 grip, but a close second was a ffg endura.

Edit: a couple of cold steels, leeks, 551 grips, spyderco tenacious family knives, zt, crkt, a buck strider.

Don't see many. The occasional Kershaw or Gerber.

Makes you wonder how all these knife companies stay in business. Seems like 1% of the people buy 99% of the knives.

My one hunting knife is a custom fixed blade from Tom Mayo. Does that qualify as a "high quality knife in the wild"?

Do SAK's, Case, USA made Schrade, etc count as your high quality knives? If so I've met people who had them, otherwise the answer is no.
Those old NY Schrades certainly are high quality. Can still be had inexpensively too.

It's unwritten law in Southwest Virginia that every able-bodied male (and many ladies) carry a folder of some type. From Bucks to Kershaws to Benchmades to Case Peanuts and Swiss Army Classics, a lot of folks here in the land of milk and honey carry a decent knife.

I see knives from time to time, but I almost never ask about or bring attention to the knife. I don't ask people what brand of tools they have in their tool box unless for some reason we are discussing tools. But if I see a better knife and they're using it, I will take notice and often say something supportive.

Of their own purchase, I have never come across anyone else who carries a high quality knife. Though in my work/social environment, I have gifted a good few knives, Kershaws and Spydercos, and they are now carried, much to my enjoyment.

That is the same for me, I have never seen one, not one ... in the wild. I gifted a Delica to one of my employees and he carries it but that's it.

My boss carries a Benchmade mini-reflex auto. My best friends carry a ZT0350cb, Para 2, and Benchmade 710. My Dad carries a Kershaw RAM (sometimes), and my Uncle carries a Spyderco Delica. I've sold or gifted all of them other than my Bosses Benchmade haha.

A great way to see more great knives out in the "wild" - gift them! :) Will certainly work with the people we hang out with.

At work at the hydro lots of lineman carry Kershaws or Sypderco. But other then work, not to much. I ran into a guy on Friday that had an Izula 2 on him and once a guy asked me if I was carrying a Delica or a Endura, then proceeded to show me his Endura he was carrying.
