High-quality robust 3-inch folder

PT is a great choice.

T.K.C, why not to tease him with some more of your knives. You have a great collection of small tough folders. Love you Sibert. Can't wait to see if benchmade will come up with something like this during their partnership.

However, I don't suggest using a knife for self defense. There is a good chance you will end up cutting yourself in the struggle or having it taken away and used on you. Best idea is not to put yourself in a position where you need to defend yourself or to run.

If neither one of those is an option than a concealed carry permit and a hand gun is a much better option. You don't have to be within arms reach to use it and it is much more effective.
I agree that knives are a nice idea when it comes to self-defense, but in reality they're probably not "the best" option when one truly considers the mechanics and potential consequences of defending oneself with a blade. Pepper spray/mace is a nice alternative and suited to most of the same circumstances in which one might consider using a knife for self-defense. It can be used from a distance and is non-lethal. (Served me very well on one occasion.) Of course it depends on the situation.

I would imagine that sabre 3in1 spray would be good for selfe defense. It has tear gas and pepper spray together.

How do you figure that? My measurements put the cutting edge at just under three inches.

Where I live, blade length is measured by the entire blade, from handle to tip, irrespective of how long the cutting edge is.

I agree. I carry a concealed pistol when I can, but there are some places where one cannot legally carry.

PT requires a lot of breaking in to get rid of the "sticky" lock bar. Rubbing contact area with 2H pencil sometimes helps. Don't do any grinding or bending, most Striders need a lot of open/close cycles to break in. Enjoy.

Thanks. I'll try that.

I LOVE my 3 inch XM-18, but that is going to be hard to find!

Yes, I looked around, but was unable to find one.

It's not the length of the edge that generally gets measured, it's the tip to handle, and probably at the longest possible point.

How about an Emerson CQC14 "stubby"? It has 2.7 inch blade. It's not AO but it has the wave and is easily deployed fast one handed.

Good choice on the PT. I was going to mention another knife although many might not think high quality, and I would not have, until I carried it for a couple of months, the knife is the Spyderco Persistence. It has a 2.75" blade that is .125" thick. The steel liners are beefy at .065", and the lockup is excellent! Blade steel is 8Cr13MoV, and takes a good edge that stays through several cuttings. Made in China. I know, I know.....China = poor quality, bu not in this case. Seems that the Spyderco knives coming out of China show a much higher degree of quality rather than you would expect.

I agree that a really hardcore stickler for the law will almost certainly measure from the very tip to the farthest exposed portion of blade and not the shortest. Then you got knives like the Kershaw Skyline where it is really hard to say where blade ends and tang or flipper or blade guard begin.

If I had to limit myself to three inches or less for concealed carry (I actually have do 3.5 inches but that still is a lot more options - and this is despite having a concealed pistol permit) I would get me a Spyderco Native and get rid of the overage of 1/16th of an inch by grinding it down and then resharpening it. Or maybe just get a Delica to start with.
