well i find i can not jest lurk..
it has been brought up concernig that some times it seems that some sellers on the evil E seem to always get so much more for their knives they sell then what you see many of them selling for...
and i noticed that many times yousee the same seller with the same knifes with buy it now of 3x the higest you normanly see it sell for being re-listed and relisted and relisted ad anasum...
we all know of the listing fees being not cheep... how can they do that and still make any profit? lord it seem that if they had listed at a saleable price they would have done better as the listing feees snowball to were they have to get that much to break even!
and they seem to sell to many of the same buyers also... are they exclusive buyers to there listings only? why would a buyer bid xo much more for a knife jest like yours yester day and yours sell for half of there bid today and the listing in question ends tomarow???
yea i wander some times... i know evil E is un predictable but i came across this tid bit jest surfing a strange catagory... it was in a buying guide...>>>

Remember, eBay allows any one person to have up to 3 different accounts on eBay. That's right. You can start three different accounts/user names, with the same credit card, address, name etc. There is no way for another eBay member to know if the person leaving very favorable feedback is the same person as the seller. This tatic is used all the time.

Know how to figure out if the feedback that says "Oh my GOD! $1,000? You've got to be kidding?" Look that that buyers history on eBay. Look at their recent winning auctions. Look at the auctions they have bid on. See a trend? I have caught, personally, 3 different sellers doing this. Reported them all. ebay suspended them all. They used one or more of their other eBay users names to bid on and win....

well i am not going to add 2 and 2 and come up with a word from webster's book or any number ,
but now and then i may be looking at feed back and buyers maby unless i know its one of you guys... hummm or do you guys do that already?

I don't really fool with ebay for the same reasons. You can't be sure of the quality/condition of anything, and it's not a real auction. Reserves are set higher than the overpriced initial bid, and the people are shilling for themselves and each other. For example-look at feedback; one person writes in 15 times to say great transaction, IN A ROW. What good is feedback like that? 400 feedbacks, 40 items sold?

eBay is like anything else. It can be good or bad. I have well over 500 transactions on eBay with a very small small number of bad ones. You just have to be careful. I have purchased a few items that were not as described. In every case, the seller refunded my money including shipping. Maybe I have just been lucky.

The same goes for PayPal. I read complaints about PayPal, but if you were to look into the problems, you would probably find that the person complaining did not follow the simple instructions or tried to get away with something. That may not always be the case, but I have never had a problem in over 150 transactions.

Have you gone to a gun show recently? What do you see? 80% overpriced junk and if you buy anything that turns out sour, you are out of luck.

As it is written, "Buyer beware".

Wait till someone rips you off on a paypall transaction.

That happend to me a few years ago. They did nothing until the F.B.I. got involved. It was too late then. The crook had left the country with over 30k.

Paypal works fine until there IS a problem. Then they do not care.

!!!!!! Are you saying that you personally got taken for 30k? I'm thinking I would have followed the guy out of the country for that much!

My rule of thumb: NEVER spend more on ebay (via paypal or any other method) then you can afford to lose.

I did have one problem using PayPal. I bought something from a bozo and paid with PayPal. He told me that he could not access his account and wanted me to send him a money order. Yeah, right! I contacted PayPal and in 3 days I had my money back. ($600) What's wrong with that?

Dave,
I sell and buy quite a bit on ebay. Alot of times I have the same people bidding on my items. Just have knives that they collect! I also buy from sellers I have dealt with in the past to avoid problems! Just because I have the same buyer in my feedback 8 times doesnt mean that he isnt buying!
As far as why some go higher or lower????? Lots of possibilities there!
Does one seller ship out of country???? Does another combine shipping or have outrageous shipping charges??? How is the title and description worded?
I know if I buy something and there are EXCELLENT pictures and very well described I will go higher because I know what I am getting! People out of country tend to raise selling prices also! I think the Buck knives are harder to come by for their collections?
I have about 10 sellers saved in my favorite seller catagory on ebay also if they list anything I am interested in I try to buy from them first. :D
Jim

1 More thing. I am not defending eBay or PayPal. I am just saying that the few times that I had a problem, they fixed it. Maybe it has something to do with attitude. Also, maybe it has something to do with paying attention. PayPal offers insurance. Sometimes it is included in the sale and sometimes there is a small fee. I have never had to use it, so I don't know if there are any problems.

Take a look at this forum. The great majority of the posts are positive, but there a few people who were ripped off on BF. Even buying and selling here is not 100%.

It all boils down to HONESTY and TRUST!
Anyone can get ripped off anywhere...
At least you can leave negative feedback on EBAY if there is a problem to warn others! I know that has stopped me from making some purchases in the past!

things that make you go hummmm... ;)

I was taken for 300.00 there were quite a few people who also were taken to get to 30k.

It happened during the early days of paypal, they did nothing. Once the F.B.I. got involved they were singing a different song than what they first told me, in that they had no responsibility for disclosing information on the guy that ripped us off.

That incident and the F.B.I follow up caused them to change the policy.
I will not use Pay Pal again.

YMMV (but when this happened paypal's initial actions helped the bad guy.)

Yeah like - 334dave :D or tripleslamx :D whatabeaut :D arksknives :D dctex99 :D Buckcustom :D indybuckguy :D
Knot2sharp :D Just these sellers right here are enough to keep you broke!!!! :D
Great guys to work with on Ebay :D
All BCCI members I have dealt with have been great. More than helpful with trades, deals, and especially information!
It is just a pleasure!
