High temp salt bath to austenitizing high alloy/high speed steel.

I have read from somewhere that high temp salt baht to austenitizing high alloy that require above 2000F with long soaking time might be a problem about alloy diffusion or something. Would anyone can confirm this?

I know they exist in industry, but have never heard of a knifemaker using a salt pot above 1600F.

An inquiry to the tech service division of one of the manufacturers of HT salts would be your best bet for a good answer. These folks would be a good start:

There is a company in Providence, RI called Metallurgical Solutions that specialized in HT'ing high speed steels in salt.
