High value low cost

Why has no one mentioned the terroir! Best $12 you can spend.

What movie was it?
"She's a beauty Clark"

I thought I was alone in the Rough Rider brand... It's great to see all the love for an inexpensive knife.
But THIS? Really striking. Bookmarked, done!

Terroir knife by baledeo - they are roughly finished but as a cheap gardening or work knife they do the job. I will post a review of mine on these forums soon.
I looked this knife up and discovered that it's made in pakistan with 420 stainless ( can be treated to be acceptable but have never known a Pak factory to do it well )
So while I had been interested it was only on the hopes it was an inexpensive carbon steel blade that I thought was made in Spain.
If it was an inexpensive regional traditional knife I'd try one out, but it's just a flea market knife.

For a pocket cutter?
Why not! I've spent way more for WAY less.

Well because my american made Buck 283 in a better steel was and still is 11$.
Plus you can get Pak folders for 5$ and under making 11$ for this a bit high imo.

I wasn't trying to rain on his parade or anything if he loves this knife, I only commented Because this knife at first seems like it may be a regional traditional working knife which makes it appealing ( think opinel, okapi, or douk douk ) .
I had to look on a number of sites to find out this knife is made in pakistan as many sites list the manufacturer as baledeo but not the COO. I just wanted to put it out there that this knife may seem to be something it's really not.

All this is true!

The terroir knife is cheaply made, and probably/definitely low quality steel, and in pakistan. BUT its a goodie. Some knives just have the x factor. This one has it. I would put it in the same category as the svord peasant - (which I personally avoid as it is made in New Zealand)

What is the problem with New Zealand? The Svord Peasant knives come with marketing materials that are puerile and annoying, but that is nothing to do with coming from New Zealand.

It takes too long to walk there if you need warranty repair... Just sayin'

I almost bought a Svord at one time. Like the Terrior, there is a certain attraction to these minimalistic designs.
It's pretty refreshing actually. Knives that can be used without parents dragging their kids away or that odd look one gets when flipping a Bali out to cut a string.

I am from New Zealand! :pIts a fine place. But getting back to knives, the cheapest ones are cheap. Cheaply made, badly put together. What I like is that they are honest about their price and capabilities.

Another good brand is Kiwi. They are made in Thailand. Just good basic kitchen knives that take an edge very well for around $7. My favourite is this one the 830 cleaver - its specialty is pizza.

These simple kiwi knives and cheap gas cookers are used to make incredible meals for millions of people in Asia every day.

Baledeo imports items from several sources. They sell a Chinese version of the British Navy 3 blade clasp knife for half the price of those made in Sheffield, and the springs break twice as fast! I had a buddy purchase one that snapped its spring in less than a day. Now looks like a genuine antique!

Lot of good info in here. When I was thinking low cost / high value, I was thinking anywhere between $20 - $50ish, but you guys really went for it! :) A lot of brands I had not heard of before. Expected SAK, Mora, Schrade, Buck, but the others have me doing some research!

Ive had my phases for traditionals from cheap to expensive. rough rider, frost cutlery, non usa schrades, SAK, case are all fun usable knives. I still have my SAK pocket pal from my hs days, sharp as ever!

I guess by being one of the oldest and largest knifemakers in the world, Victorinox offers the best value out there, whether brand new or used.

For US-made traditionals, I see more value offerings from Case.

This is just my impression as an outsider with limited experience in this field.
