highest grind and thinnest blade?

The thinnest grind I have handled is a SAK or a spyderco Salsa. Thats assuming hight relative to the blade. Both are full flat ground. I have never handled a full hollow grind.

My #10 Opinel has a full bevel. No secondary. Just slightly convex (mouse pad technique with very little pressure) It cuts like hell. I can push cut bread with it. I can push cut tomatoes with it, and they don't love a single drop of juice...

That's the thinnest blade I've ever used.

Cheers,

How do Krein's grinds compare to Johnson's?

They are near identical, same style, the only real difference is that Krein has a higher standard of finish. Alvin can do very nice finishes as seen on some of the knives on his website, but doesn't always do it as seen on some of the other knives on his website. His style of sharpening also mangles the finish..

Being a custom maker of very suitable skill, I imagine he could grind it as thin as you wanted.

You would think so, and he can, however it isn't a property you can assume for other makers, take a look at some of the responces here :

Krein's U2 mod left the blade at 0.021" at 1/4" back from the edge, this is just slightly over the optimal thickness Alvin grinds the full hard 1095/M2 blades.

I am interested to see if the stainless steel can actually function at a similar edge angle that Alvin runs on the carbon steels, 3-5 degrees. Anyway for someone wanting to see that grind, I highly recommend Krein.
