Highest performance Japanese-styled swords?

I've gone on about the terminology for a long time, but I don't think we're likely to change something that has been engraved in many peoples' minds.

A curved, generally single-edged sword with a cord wrap and a round guard founds itself as "katana" in the minds of many folks. I guess that's more misinformation and assumption than anything else, but it's not something that is easily changed. A lot of the cheap sword market crap that is highlighted in magazines like Bud-K and others will further push the misinterpretations. And I've encountered more than one person who has stated that they don't give a damn what a real sword is like, they just want something to show off to their friends with. Maybe that's one of the reasons I'm sorta rude here.

Another problem is...what strikes into the minds of consumers more than the very commonly mispronounced "katana?" "Sword" is a broad term and you may not latch onto the consumer properly. Saber is a little more defining, but still not likely to grasp attention quite as well...

Maybe for new designs and styles and inventions, we should make new names for them.

But we all know how unlikely things are to change...

Shinryû.

Oh and by the way...Howard, if you are reading this, TomW and I extend warmest greetings to you and hope you are able to drop by once in a while when yer able to hop around forums. We appreciate it.
