• Happy Thanksgiving to all of you! I hope that you all have something to be grateful for this year and for many years to come
  • America has reached 250 years, and I am grateful to be here, in the best country in the world. Thank every one of you who helps make this country a better place, those who have gone before and risked it all, and those who've paid the ultimate price to make the United States what we are today.

Happy Birthday America! Let Freedom Ring for all time!

Just finished.

I had to do a bit of last minute blade touch up to remove an errant scratch, but it turned out fine (the Mobile 1 oil trick really does work!!). This is the last of 7 knives I'll be submitting on Monday to an art/craft gallery jury for an admission appraisal.

I'm quite happy with this one.

Blade: 3/16th O1 steel with a 5 1/4" blade, 9 1/2" overall length. Hand rubbed to 1000 grit and finished on a Scotch Brit wheel for a nice satin finish.

Handle: Yellow Birch root burl, weathered moose antler bolster and lanyard "loop", spacers of ebonized Pear and Bloodwood veneer. Finished with tung oil and buffed carnuba wax.

Sheath: 9 oz veg tan leather dyed dark brown with full welt and natural (un-dyed) edges burnished smooth. Yellow Birch root burl inlay, weathered moose antler conch and D-ring, padded snap. Nice snug fit!

"Highlands" refers to the famous Cape Breton Highlands and where the handle/sheath materials were collected.

Its late so these aren't the greatest photos, sorry. I'll try for better ones if the sun ever comes out up here! :(

Thank you for looking. Critiques and comments are encouraged.

Thank you all!

This is a design loosely based on a puukko featured in Knives 2008 done by Michael Almquist whose work I admire greatly. And, as JParanee said, I see his style as "far from ordinary" in a world filled with way to many Woodlore clones. This handle shape just slips into your hand and offers a solid, ergonomic grip. I was intrigued when I first saw this design and had to give it a shot.

Again, thank you all for the compliments. They are much appreciated.
