For those not on the Rat forum afraid of Kool Aid no doubt a couple of pics from my last family hike taken 2 days ago. The area is called Pelindaba which translates into End of Discussions, it is near Hartebeespoort in the North-West province of South Africa. The vegetation is a mix of Grass and Forested Savannah, extreme climate: cold and dry in the winter and hot and wet in the summer. As it happens, it is now summer in the Southern hemisphere and we had to get up early. The pics were taken between 7-8 am before it got too hot. The sun is already up; South Africa doesn't do summer time which means it gets light around 5 am and dark around 7 pm. I wish they would change that; I'm not an early raiser by nature. :) I also carried aknife, a Mutt LE but I took not pics. :p

Far in the back the Magaliesberg range, the old Malaria border which has now moved further North tahnks to DDT.

The trail was easy going, it is part of my favourite mountain bike runs, or in some case when you have to climb it should be called a mountain bike carry :D

The kids loved it and only started complaining in the 3rd hour. This pics was obvioulsy taken at the beginning.

great pics. I love that kind of terrain. What is the wild life like there?

Big critters: leopards, rarely seen but they are there. The rest is smaller like jackals, warthogs, etc.

Couple of buck types like kudu, waterbuck and some smaller species.

Missed a pic of a group of baboons that crossed the trail, I just had switched off the camera. :barf:

Lots of snakes, birds.

Due to the arid terrain the number of animals is not really dense.

Those are beautiful!

One more place to go. I like the feeling of the picture of the cliffs above the river, it looks like someplace I could spend some time exploring.
