Well my RC-4 arrived yesterday and as much as my excitment to play with it, my daughter had her jazz concert that night and I ended up seeing her play with the University jazz band. It was a great night, but I was forced to dance which provides a great deal of comic relief to my former students that were also there.

First a couple comparison shots with one of my custom knives that are similar - a Jeff Diotte who is a knifemaker that lives in my hometown. I guess I have a certain aesthestic mindset on blade shape...

The handle ergonomics swing towards being slightly better on the Diotte. They are just a touch longer and thicker and the finger groves fit me like a glove. Of course Jeff is known for his awesome ergo's. That said, the RC-4 feels really good in the hand. It is nice and compact, yet it doesn't feel like there is any lack in handle length. The mircata doesn't have the warm feel of wood, but it is very tactile and bombproof. One of the reasons I wanted the RC-4 was to have a more rugged user knife. I also have really grown to love carbon steel.

This morning I took a walk out to Ojibway prairie park and decided to play with the new toy for a bit. It was a bit swampy with all the snow we've had the past two weeks. This is how a lab chooses to cross swamp.

And here is how a springer-mix does it :)

Lots of deer tracks and scat on the trails..

The RC-4 is pretty darn photogenic as bearthedog and horndog have taught us!

Pitdog always likes to show his dumpstermutt chainsawing through giant cedars and redwoods....So here what might happen when you get the RC-4 mad :)

The flask say's cognac, but I choose to fill it with single malt!

This was the stand of fragmities I used for flash tinder last week on my thread on the firesteel scraper. The dried seed tuff works excellent to catch the spark and mixed with dried leaves easily gets a good flame going.

Nice shots KGD, I see the snow is already melting in On...:) Where did you get the RC-4???? I gotta get one of those!!!

Hi Treg,

Normally I like to support CDN suppliers, but none that I know of offer the Ratcutlery line yet. I pretty much fell in love with these knives the first time I saw pics of them. I purchased from Knivesshipfree. It took only 11 days from the ship date to get here and the shipping cost was only $5.

Nice pics, nice knife, nice knifework, nice pooch :D

+1 on the single malt

NOICE, love that knife. as soon as I get some money man, you bet that thing is going to be sittin' in my cabinet.

Nice shots I really like the dried weeds shot. The tip of the RC-4 even makes that scat look good.
Now you see what all the fuss was about?

Definately worth all the fuss, but now I want all the RC offerings :(

Glenlivet was in the flask! My favorite is lagavulin, followed by lafroige.

Great pics and great knives! I'm sure you had a great time:thumbup:

Well thank's to you KGD I ordered one last week and it came in this morning...what a beautifull piece of work!!! It's perfect. I though my RAT-3 was great but compare to the RC-4 WOW I'm in love again!!! I can't wait to show it some action....:)

This whole group is a bunch of enablers. The last possible thing I could need is another knife. But thanks to all the great pics everybody has posted, I have an RC4 on the way. ;)

Hey Treg and Tknife congrats on the purchase. Use the hell out of them RC's because they really like it! As you can see below, mine is no longer a virgin :)

Oh and please start up a thread with picks of your new babies!

Yeah Bearthedog, it was a long night of merry making and fire feeding. The RC-4 was put to the task of prying apart a shipping crate from some kind of Indonesian hardwood and splitting it up by baton. The baton was one of the pieces which was about 1" thick which explains the width of the marking.

I kind of like its new look. Sort of makes me less hesitant to beat on it some more :)
