Hiking Boots / Made in America

Nothing touches, even comes close, to Peter Limmer customs from Intervale, NH. Their off-the-shelf boots are exceptional also, assuming they fit correctly, but they're not US-made.

Check with Midwest Boot...they pride themselves on only offering boots from the USA.

Great link ^^^.

But again, the majority of their stocked product is made offshore. They have a link on their website to American made product - the rest of their listed boots are made offshore.

If folks really care about supporting local manufacturing, double check where the product is made. A good indicator of where the boots are made is price. Boots manufactured in North American (or Italy) will cost considerably more that similar products made offshore.

Hey guys,

I don't want to sound like a douchebag but I don't think some of these boot suggestions are made in the USA.

The LL Bean Cresta Hikers for instance are "Imported" and many of the Schnee's leather boots are made in Italy.

I realize that everyone is trying to be helpful, but only a small number of mass produced or custom footwear is still made in North America. And that's a shame.

Oh don't worry--I've checked my sources. Those Cresta Hikers may be offshore, but the Bean Boots and Maine Hunting Shoe are still made right here in Maine (even says it right on the heel!) They actually just hired more workers recently since the boots are seeing a big upswing in popularity. :)

Man, that's great news about the increased popularity in Bean Boots and Maine Hunting Shoe. Also nice to see LL Bean hiring more Americans to meet this demand rather than just going offshore.

Yeah...I probably should have specified that in my post....the American Made section is where I was at the time...;)

Glad you mentioned that. I bought a pair of Limmers a few years ago only to find out they were made in Germany. After taking all the measurements they requested, the boots still don't fit that well. Same for a pair of White's I did the custom measurement thing at home on the order blank with. I much prefer to buy my boots in a shop where I can actually try on different sizes.

Literally just went through a similar search about 2 weeks ago and picked up a pair of Danner Combar Hikers online through a milsurp store. Although they aren't recraftable, they are made in the USA and I got mine for about half the price of most leather Danners. I found them to run true to size and ordered a "wide" in my regular sneaker size. Reviews are somewhat mixed out there but I found them to be very comfortable right out of the box and am very pleased with the purchase.

You might try a pair of Whites, made in Spokane, WA. Rugged, durable, rebuildable. USA made.

To be honest I didn`t know myself what models of Merrell boots are made here until this thread ,I only knew that some were because I have driven past the factory. I looked online and you can search for the USA made boots easily.

Been to the Cove lately? :D

Danner USMC RAT. By far the most comfortable boots I've ever worn, I use them for everything from work to hiking, and you can get the military issued ones pretty cheap on ebay.

I love Danner Boots---but, some are made here & some are not. I bought a pair of Ft. Lewis Go Devil boots like 24 yrs ago. Made in the USA. They have been resoled 2x & need it again. NOTHING wrong with them & are still spitshined for work. Trouble is, everyone who did resole around me went out of business. The one i did find wanted $165 just for a resole w/Vibram Kletterlift sole. I bought a pair of the Danner Quarry Boots 3.0. I ended up getting them for like $129 shipped to my door. They are no where NEAR as comfortable as my old ones were right out of the box. I thought all Danners were made in the USA, but i was wrong. No one can afford to buy a new pair of boots everytime the sole wears out & a $165 for a resole !!!! WOW. I would like a list of mfgs that make boots in the USA & particularly, exactly what models are made in the USA. If someone could do that, MANY many people would be gratefull. Including me.

Danner all the way! i have had a pair of Quarrys for 4 years and they are great. I'm looking at getting a pair of the Ft. Lewis soon.

I have a pair of Insulated FT Lewis in 13w in very good shape I will give someone that will use them for the price of the shipping.

I'd recommend anything with Vibraum soles. They're indesructable!!
