With Maisy back at 100% I decided to take advantage of the awesome weather and head off out !

Maisy made straight for the sea....

I did a post a while back about always having some Jute and Fatwood in my pocket, I emptied them out today and took stock of what I had.....

PA040007.jpg

I then used my Dave Farmer Camp knife to shave up the fatwood....

3 strikes later and we had fire.....

PA040009.jpg

I also had back up in the shape of a BIC just incase.....

We then went to a nice grassy spot......

The dogs explored while I sat back with a cup of tea....perfect !

right on! Maisy's looking great. What knife is that wee little jute wrapped one?

I see snicker is mooning us......

It's a JK Striker knife.
I can never get both dogs to face the camera at the same time !!!

Cool pics Pit, I always like finding twisted trees on points of stone on the cliffs here. Interesting to see the effects of wind on a single tree.

I ALWAYS have a bic for back up too.

Neato Pitdog. Always good to have a redundant firekit like that on hand. You still pack in those coghlan firesticks - the one with the match head connected to the parafinized stick?

Hey pit, what's that flat whistle you have there? Kind of looks like a Jetscream, but more rounded off. Is it any good?

Pit --

Do you just spark the fatwood or do you spark the jute and the use the jute to light the fat wood? I've never really used fat wood like that and wold be crious to know your technique.

(I've been practicing flint and steel this weekend. Char cloth is the key to getting F&S to work as far as I can tell.)

Yeah I always carry those during the winter months !

It is a Jet Scream, I have had it for quite some time so maybe the new versions are a little different ?

I sparked the jute and there was some small fatwood slithers mixed in with it !

Always nice to come home and see Maisy and the TT. Great pics

I also always have a BIC with me. Need to have a surefire way to get a fire if I can't get the sparks to work.

Great pic's Pit! It's good to see some of the beautiful NW...truly a sight for my sore, dry, drab Afghanistan eyes! Of couse, seeing TT's bum was a little too much:D

I like the fire kit; nice, compact and effective:thumbup:

Looks like a great time. Thanks for sharing!

On a side note, now that Maisy is at 100%? Did I miss something?

She had to have an emergency op, she has double this amount of stitches on the inside !!!!!

Great looking pictures...yet again. Glad to see that Maisy is back to her old self in heading straight for the water.

On a different note what size tubes do you use for your ranger bands? When I tried it it was so tight it would not even stretch enough to get around an altoids tin.

Man I don't have a clue, I cut them outta an old wheel that was left locked to a post( Hope the person hadn't planned on coming back for it,LOL !) it just stretched round an altoids tin !!!!
