Hiking in sandals or shoes?

I have a friend that's been hiking in the Five Fingers, in fact a lot of the time on slick rock.I looked at them but they're not for me.

I did an eight mile R/T hike on Sunday and wore my Keen Newports. My feet were fine except near the bottom after almost 4 miles of downhill. Other people were complaining of toe problems in their shoes, too. Absolutely no hot spots!

The only time I'm barefoot or in sandals is when I'm on the beach or boardwalk.I usually hike in heavily wooded areas and always wear boots. There's just too many things to scratch & cut up your feet & uneven ground, rocky areas can result in an ankle injury.
To all you barefoot hikers out there...more power to ya:thumbup:It's not for me though.

I don't own any sandals, mainly because I'm a 16EE and I can't find any my size. A long time ago I had a pair of O'Neills I wore everywhere, even on short winter hikes. They lasted for a good two years until the back straps gave out.

I hear Israeli Commandos love their sandals
