Hiking with a BEAST(RC-5)

How do you like the RC5 ? I've been drooling over this thing since it came out but the thickness of the blade at such a short length keeps me away (to short for a chopper & to thick to be a slicer) But Everytime I see one I want one :p I don't care for serrations on a fixed blade, takes up to much useful blade IMO :D All-N-All it's a tough looking knife

I have to agree with this. I have found the RC-6 a much better blade for what we do in the woods.
The 5 might be better for cutting your way out of a downed airplane though. ;)

I RC-5 is so heavy, might as well carry an axe. I think RAT should have did like BRKT with the Bravo 1 and remove some of the steel in the handle (skeletonize) to make the knife a little lighter. It wouldn't decrease the strength at all.

I have one and I will keep it, but it isn't even close to being a perfect or ideal survival knife. That is evident by the comments that Randall himself has even made about the RC-5 in the ESEE forum.

In what thread did he said that exactly ? please post the link.. if its true, i really need to read that

Paulding Forest has some nice areas. You familiar with the mines near Gold Mine Lake? I have one of those waterproof WMA maps so I do not get too lost when exploring.Easier to find places to park and more remote.

I spend time at Paulding forest...between hunting seasons. The Cohutta Wildnerness is my #1 place of all time.
