I don't know anything about plants growing in Utah, but if it was growing around here, I would say it's Thimbleberry (Rubus parviflorus) or possibly Purple-flowering Raspberry (Rubus odoratus). What colour were the flowers, if you saw them earlier?

Shop around. With Camelbak stuff, if you look for last year's model/color, you can often get good deals. I got both Mini-Mules for just a little more than one would normally cost.
