So I'm more of a fat khukuri blade guy. I like the ganga rams and other stuff mostly
However one time I ordered a deal of the day khukuri from HI and was suprised to find another khukuri in there. A 15" Sirupate. A narrow blade khukuri.
It appeared to be one that was also included in the deal of the day and they had sent it to me in error
When I wrote them and asked about sending it back, they replied " Just keep the extra, and think well of us"
Well it didn't take that- I already thought well of them, but I played with the narrow sirupate and how well it cut and it also chopped surprisingly well. However since it was a good karma gift sort of I gave it to someone else who had never had one. Keep the good energy flowing
Anyway when this Chitlangi came up for 70 bucks in a deal of the day I jumped on it because I wanted another lighter khuk that would chop. Amazingly when I opened the box there was ANOTHER khuk in there! I'll post some pics of it later
So the Chitlangi feels great. 15oz! Here is it with a 15" 20oz Baby Ganga Ram Villager on top. The Chitlangi is on the bottom.
Here's a pic of the spines contrasted. I think the Chitlangi has an even thicker spine. Maybe quarter inch or more??
Despite the handle being thinner I find the it more comfortable than the ganga ram. I can more easily use the bolster as part of the handle.
Khukuris are hardened using a tea kettle on the edge. By tapping along the edge I discerned the most tempered area is between the pointed sticks:
As I was checking the edge I found a large area where the grind on each side didn't meet:thumbdn: Luckily it is easy to sharpen khukuris:thumbup:
I sharpened it up but I still have a one inch section I still need to close. But the parts I finished have a fine edge. The actual edge profile is good. I could whittle thin shavings.
Next I tried it on some very hard dried wood. It cut it fine. Once I finish profiling the edge it should be a great cutter for the size.
Can you see how dried the wood is? Almost looks shiny.Hard as hell.
15" 15oz good chopper. Only 70 bucks. Nice blade!!!!
