Himalayan Imports R-10 and Sausage/shrimp gumbo

Oh, man....I Looove shrimp gumbo with andouille ! That is making me hungry and i already had lunch. BTW.... If you like the R-!0 you should check out the YCS karda...and the Sarge knife...and.....

Thanks Karda. I've seen a couple of HI's other small fixed blades and they look good. I'm hoping that this doesn't lead to yet another steel addiction:D

mneedham. I wish I could post pics, but no camera. I mad a piouch type sheath that allows horizontal carry. My only problem is the leather I use is more suited to moccasins than sheaths. But it does work.

I too am nuts about 5160. I have several customs which use it as well (forged of course). This steel takes an exceptional edge easily, holds it well and resharpens easily in the field. Plus it takes the abuse of real outdoors work without fail which is what I want.

Mine has Buffalo horn handles other than that it looks like Corp's. And yeah it pushes hair.

I like 5160 too. Being a big chopper fan, I find that it is pretty durable. There was an article recently by Ed Fowler indicating that 5160 varies a lot depending on the source and the QC. I believe he said that he wound up buying John Deere driveshafts or something... On the sheath, I'm sure one of our resident makers will help me out....

mneedham.

Check out Koyotegirl one the Koyote custom knives subforum in the makers section. She makes some really fantastic sheaths.

Thanks Mike. You are obviously a man with great taste, I'm a big fan of Sierra's work:thumbup:

yaaaaaah, Needham has got one or five of koyotegirl's sheaths. In fact, the recent small necker pattern horizontal belt carry led to the new hor/vert carry sheath for the sgian dubhs.

Needham: your bushbeater is 5160, too.

I'm really starting to love that steel more and more for general knives as well as the heavy choppers

That bushbeater is my favorite big, heavy chopper:thumbup::thumbup:
