Himalayan Imports vs. Ghurka House?

Hey guys, I just ordered a kukuri from Ghurka House, mainly because it was significantly cheaper than Himalayan Imports. I was just wondering if anyone knows if there is a significant difference in quality between the two products? HI kukuris are way more expensive, so I assume there would be a difference in quality, but have no experience on the subject.
 
Yeah, there is, particularly the finish.
GH usually makes a good working blade, though.

Also, when you factor shipping the price difference isn't quite so big anymore.
 
I hear good things about both, but I got my ang khola at HI, and I was very pleased with the service
 
a WWII, a Service #1 and a special project Ken Onion from back when there was a Ghurka House forum here. I have been pleased with all of them. The fit, finish and quality, as well as customer service were very good back then.

Their presence here ended badly when the Moderator/Importer- Craig Gottleib surreptitiously pulled up stakes and abandoned the forum in favor of a German Dagger enterprise with no explanation and no goodbye for his faithful people here, some awaiting special orders.

It left a bad tatse in a lot of mouths. I have no personal experience with them since then, but gather that overall, dealing with GH in it's current state has deteriorated somewhat.

You can pull up the old forum in the archives and browse the threads from the beginning of 2002 and see how it went.
 
I have not got a Khuk from HI but I did get the Jungle Model from KhukuriHouse online ( I guess this is what you are calling Gurka house?)
It took 1month to get the knife after I paid for it. The knife looks alot better than I expected. It cost me as much in shipping as it did for the knife. The fit & finish is good , not as pretty as the HI models that I've seen but for a Khuk that you are gonna use its fine :thumbup: The Service from KH was Awsome, they were always in contact via E-mail & would reply ASAP with the answer to any questions.
