A knife is just a knife even if it looks nice and is made if the best materials
Knife collecting is just a hobby, nothing more

I think this can happen nearly everywhere. The delicious anticipation is often a let down when the reality is viewed. But by being aware, we can perhaps mitigate this when the activity occurs. I just opened my first Hinderer, a used XM18, about an hour ago. In pocket as I type this at the library, and so far pretty impressed with the overall ergs, and fit and finish of Mr. Hinderer's flagship knife.
