I'm so sorry for your loss!!! I truly believe there's no closer bond than that of a man & his best friend! It leaves a hole, a lot of times, worse than the loss of a relative! My girl Hershey passed August 20th of 2013 & I still get misty eyed remembering her!

"Hinderer Herd Pet Alert" -----------

For those of you with Larger Dogs, especially deep chest cavity breeds. Read up on and know the signs of "Bloat".
Life threatening and very dangerous.
Went my entire life having never encountered it but have recently had Both Mason and now Pete almost taken out by this crazy condition.
Was called down last evening by my Wife saying, "Something is wrong with Pete" I took one look at him and asked "Did Pete get away today"
I already knew the answer and it was yes. Wifey explained he wasn't gone long and I knew what that meant too, A blast thru the woods at warp speed and a gulp fest at the water bowl upon his return which I have had zero success getting my Family to realize and stop when it occurs.
Bloat can occur when a Dog literally gulps too much air while drinking and the pocket gets stuck in their gut causing (applicable name) "Bloat".
Death can occur within minutes. In the case of my Dogs, I give them a kiss on the snout, tell them I love them and wish them good luck.
Call me an Ahole or heartless or whatever - Fact is, I am a Country Boy and a Darwinian at Heart. Survival if it is indeed in the cards and if not...
The Herd gets stronger. I won't stand for abuse or the suffering of an animal BUT "If" they create a situation possibly helped by one of my not so aware kids or spouse - I will not whack myself with a $1000 vet bill everytime somebody doesn't keep their head outta their own ass.
Been there done that, not anymore.

So, Pete is better today (Thank God) Sadly, it'll happen again but I wanted to make you guys aware in case, like me, you had never heard of "Bloat".
Now, IF I could just figure out how to get the condition to cross over to Humans..... I'd make some Dinner reservations ! Water Anyone?!

(No, Not for my Family. I know some people I'd ask to to the trough though.)

While the topic of exsanguination is likely more common in/on a knife forum...severe water intoxication can also take a human life. Fragile animals, they be.

Glad the pups are doing well.

You have a cat too.....???

It's like "Wild Kingdom" over there.......

But Sam does look quite comfortable......and somehow.....quite satisfied with himself......

Two(2) Dogs, Two(2) Cats and Four(4) ummmmm "Kids". It can be a busy place.

Snow is falling in the Southern Fingerlakes region of NY, Jack and Daniels seem to enjoy romping around. 5 yr old brothers born on the 4 th of July, named them after my favorite drink.

They say a Pet can look like its owner.... In your case - Your Dogs look like a "Buddy" of yours...... maybe its the beard :)

I found this poem this morning, some of you may already be familiar with it. It is my hope that no one "needs" it today or anytime soon but for those who it comforts - I hope you find it so.

I Loved You Best

So this is where we part, My Friend,
and you'll run on, around the bend,
gone from sight, but not from mind,
new pleasures there you'll surely find.

I will go on, I'll find the strength,
life measures quality, not its length.
One long embrace before you leave,
share one last look, before I grieve.

There are others, that much is true,
but they be they, and they aren't you.
And I, fair, impartial, or so I thought,
will remember well all you've taught.

Your place I'll hold, you will be missed,
the fur I stroked, the nose I kissed.
And as you journey to your final rest,
take with you this...I loved you best.

Any of us who have ever endured the loss of a special friend know how painful it is, Thank God for the Gentle creatures we've called - Friend.

That's a beautiful poem, I've never read it but I felt it when I lost Libby a year and a half ago. Maybe the best dog I've ever been around
